  1. I am looking at fitting a HM7000 decoder into a DCC fitted J83 - this has the same chassis as the Jinty (and possibly other 0-6-0s). This is a 4 pin socket, so I'll be hard wiring the decoder in place. Has anyone done this and found space for speaker and stay alive as well within the J83? The extra length of the decoder is making me think twice about this. Any tips from people who've tried?

    Sets

I've bought the Easterner set, just to see what its all like. With the 15% club discount, thats £165, so not bad for an A4 and 3 coaches. Suspect a lot of people will be dipping their toe, and getting a set seems the obvious way to do that, so its a pity there arnt a few more options available.
  3. Well, I've been fiddling about with the CVs, and while its not perfect, I think its better.
  4. Is this common with the Steam ones? I've fitted a couple of Class 66 ones and they've really worked fine out of the box.
  5. I too have plans to put the J36 TTS decoder into a J83. With both being North British locos, the sound should be very similar. You will need to change the speaker, as the supplied one wont fit into the J83. It didnt fit into the J36 either, but thats a different story!
  6. I've just bought and fitted a TTS decoder into my Hornby J36, leaving aside the issues of trying to get it to actually fit inside the loco it was designed for, I have been plagued with poor running. The loco was tested on my layout on DC, and run in, and the performance, even at slow speed was really good. However, it now has a stutter. It seems to stall, which obviously causes the sound to stop and then restart. On occasion, the loco will restart by itself, but usually it may need to the tiniest of nudges. The track is well cleaned, other locos do not have the same problem. Here is a clip of the problem in action: Now I have, on advice from elsewhere, changed some of the CVs, which seems to have improved things somewhat. But its not cured it. CV150=1 CV153=255 CV154=1 Any suggestions? I am using a Bachmann Dynamis if that has any bearing.
  7. Does anyone have any news on when we can expect version 1.6 to be available?
