  1. You could try an enamel primer. That may help. Acrylics hate silicones.
  2. Hi Jess, Thanks for your reply. When thinking a little more about it, this came to mind. The current box art is quite amazing. I wonder if, being digital, the subject could be removed, allowing the empty background to become a display backscene on some models. The completed model could form the 3 dimensional focal point. This is a sort of decoupage idea. A couple of years ago, our Classic British Kits group displayed Airfix kits against 3D bases made to match the original Airfix Box Art. Link No 1. https://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=196&t=5806 Link No 2. https://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=196&t=5213 More here about the background . . https://uamf.org.uk/viewforum.php?f=196 Best regards, Ian p.s. This year marks my 65th year of building Airfix kits. The first was HMS Victory, the current one on the bench is the new Spitfire Vc in 1/72nd, and I have just ordered the new Canadair Sabre F4.
  3. I would like the forum pages to open at the top, rather than at the end, leaving you to scroll up. As mentioned above, a Button will do. I would quite like a LIKE button. If we read something that we like and agree with, it may give you a feel for how that suggestion / post is agreed with. Also handy when someone suggests a subject, or re-release. I have mentioned it before on Wishlists about some free, or very low priced downloads. My suggestions would be some basic airfield structures, bases and backgrounds for aircraft. ( These would go with some of your RAF Vehicles and figures.) Bases and backgrounds for AFVs etc, and some village / building / garage backgrounds for cars. Possibly a seascape, or simple harbour for your ships. With them being downloads, they could be scaled by the modeller to suit the kit. All kits look better when shown on a scenic base. Maybe free downloads to Club Members. These can be printed onto A4 textured paper, cut and pasted onto some art board and attached to a base. Just a thought.
  4. As a completely new kit . . . 1/48th Dragon Rapide. So many schemes for this beautiful aircraft. 1/48th Austin Tilly van. Widely used vehicle. 1/48th Land Rover and 50's RAF Figures. For Hunters, Sabres and Javelin. 1/72nd Scimitar. Long overdue. 1/72nd Figures for RAF Bomber Support set. 1/72nd Lockheed T-33. Loads of lovely schemes. New Parts . . . . . 1/72nd Hurricane I with metal wing. 1/48th Hurricane I with fabric wing. Re-release . . . . DHC Beaver Banshee Sabre D F-80 Shooting Star Fokker F-27 Friendship in original Aer Lingus scheme. More 1/32nd classic cars. I would like to see some card kit downloads and backgrounds for their models, too.
  5. I use their dropper bottles for brushing. No problems. Get the thinning right and all is good. Buying ready thinned paint is not always good value. Get the standard and thin it. You get more paint that way. Thinners are a lot cheaper than paint.
  6. There are quite a few die cast ones out there going cheap. The CORGI Bedford Coaches look nice for 1/48th. Good prices on Ebay. A lick of paint and a couple of decals will do the job. The Oxford Range have some similar ones in 1/72 ish scale.
  7. Well, I'll hang on til 1.30 am. Nothing in sight yet.
  8. Well, I can't wait up much longer to see what's new for 2021. It's gone 1.20 am already and nothing in sight.
  9. The Sabre, Mig 15 and F-51D Mustang are still out. The Meteor was nor an Airfix Tool, nor was the Sea Fury FBII, so whether, or not they still have these, I can't say. The F-82 would need a completely new kit, as the fuselage was considerably longer. I have one and the differences cannot really be covered by a single sprue. A new tool F-80, and a T-33, would be really good. So many brilliant schemes and sure to be a good seller, especially to me. The old Vampire kit is a bit long in the tooth now and was a Heller tool. Airfix are currently reviewing their old tooling, so we may see the B-29 and Firefly V popping up again, as well as the F-84G and F-80. Did you know that a B-29 became an Ace aircraft after shooting down 5 North Korean fighters? ( 'Command Decision,' I believe.) I have been building a few Korean War aircraft during Lock Down. Here are a few. A few more here . . . https://www.flickr.com/photos/23594891@N07/albums/72157713732737807
  10. In the meantime, the old Monogram kit still looks and builds up nicely. The figures are nice too. Try and find one of the early releases on Ebay.
  11. Airfix could do well enough with the new carriers, after all, they will be in service for around 50 years, according to plans. They will be very large kits in 1/350th. 811 mm long and 210 mm wide at the deck, 111 at the waterline. Add the stands and it will be quite tall, too. That is a lot of plastic, so a hefty price tag and a hefty tooling cost, as well. They already do a Type 45, so the addition of a Type 26 later, would be well on the way to a carrier group. No doubt, Airfix have looked at this and done the sums. Let's see what happens in a couple of years.
  12. I must say, having just built two of the new Airfix Hurricanes, that I enjoyed every minute. If you are zipping them up, you really don't need to do too much, but you can really go to town and open up the panels without having to add too much more from the scrap box. Just enjoy yourself. Here's one of them. Very easy build. All hand painted with a hairy stick. Didn't even need to mask. I use Humbrol Acrylics over Halfords Grey Primer. The new acrylics are great, just try a little thinner with the top coat.More here. https://www.flickr.com/photos/23594891@N07/albums/72157657239085966
  13. Some nice ones in simple, one version packaging. Jet Provost T3-4, Spitfire Ia, P-51D, Gnat T1, Bf 109E, P-40E, Fw-190A, plus some older ships like the Cutty Sark, HMS Victory. If I get a chance, I will get along and buy a few more Provosts and Gnats.
  14. Airfix have HMS Shannon, though it's not easy to find. It's about 1/600. Other than that there are a lot of wooden kits on Ebay for very low prices. ( Up to £20 ) These are from China, but look pretty good. I think Revell had some out in the 50's.
  15. I have just looked through my original list and have edited it. I am mindful of keeping the models realistic. I would like to see the following . . . 1/72nd Hurricane I with Metal Wing. ( New parts and decals. ) 1/72nd Tempest II ( New Tool ) 1/72nd Beaufighter ( Early version, with horizontal tail.) ( New parts) As a NF version. Guy Gibson? 1/72nd Mosquito BIV. ( New Tool ) 1/72nd F-80C Shooting Star. ( There are no modern versions of this available and there are so many super schemes for this aircraft. This would perfectly link to the other famous Korean War jets, the MiG 15 and F-86 Sabre, and the recently released F-51D Mustang. The F-84 Thunderstreak could be re-released to go with the set. ) 1/72nd T-33 Shooting Star (The 2 seater has also been very neglected in this scale. A new tool would be very welcome. Again, there are so many super schemes for this aircraft that it could be re-released every year with new schemes.) 1/48th Hurricane I with Fabric wing. ( New wing parts and loads of schemes.) 1/48th Jet Provost T3 - T4 ( New tool ) 1/48th Swift FR5 ( New Tool ) Others would be re-releases . . . . Fokker F-27 in original markings . . .Aer Lingus. BAC Trident. BEA Red Box BAC 1-11 HP42 DHC Beaver. ( Very silly prices on the internet.) Douglas Skyraider Bronco OV 10A or D versions. Sabre D Douglas Skyray McDonnell Banshee Kaman Seasprite. Some good schemes for this aircraft. I believe that there is tooling for the T-45 Goshawk, but it was never released. I would love to see some new hard plastic 1/72nd figures to go with the RAF Bomber Support set. I wonder if the Dinosaurs would be worth a re-run. I know that my grandkids are mad on them. I would buy these kits, probably more than one. The 1/72 Hurricane would be a multiple purchase, as would the F-80c and T-33.I hope that these suggestions are of use.
  16. That would be a masive kit and a massive investment for both Airfix and the modeller. Over the last few years, there have been some amazing models issued, but the price tag is horrendous. I have managed to get all the Airfix 1/24th releases, however, though usually all when getting discounts. £200+ would scare me off completely.I have collected all the Airfix 1/600 range over the years, getting quite a few of most all of them. I also have the Type 45 and Illustrious, but will need to send off for the Atlantic Models detail sets for these. I would buy a 1/600 QE Carrier, but I don't think that Airfix will be adding to that range, unfortunately. I'm not sure if they think that a jump to 1/700 would be advisable, given the circumstances. Oddly enough, ships always seem very expensive when compared to Aircraft. The fact that the Airfix ship range was around the same price is the reason that I have so many of them. I realise that many modellers have the cash to buy all the very expensive, top-of-the-line kits, but I'm not one of them. Still, they did manage the 1/24th Mosquito, which seems to have been a good seller, probably because it is well priced for what you get, and less expensive than others in smaller scales.Best of luck to you avid would be QE / PoW Builders. I'll just restrict myself to rebuilding the whole 1/600 range from my stash of old Airfix kits.
  17. I would love to see a new Airfix Mosquito BIV in 1/72nd. The old 1/48th kit is a bit old now, but still builds up well. I have a few 1/72nd Mosquitos built and stashed, but I would certainly buy some new BIVs.
  18. I am trying to replenish some Humbrol Aerosols from the site, but there seem to be a lot less these days. There were always a good selection. Will these colours be coming available at some point?
  19. I am working through some old Airfix Kits that have been layibg around for too long. Just completed the Banshee, which is a good kit, though I had to source some new decals. Likewise an F-80c. Nice old classic, but the decals are just to yellow to use. While looking through the stash I also found a rather nice old F-84F Thunderstreak. I had removed the decals from this kit, as I was going to do a different version. I have them in a photo album, but they are still a bit yellow. I have placed these sheets in a south facing window, hoping to bleach them out. In the meantime, I have bought new decal sheets.Last in the old kits saga, was a very old DC-3 that I was given at a model show a couple of years ago. Again, very yellow and very brittle decals. With the latter, I have been able to scan the sheet and transfer it onto some decal paper. The Silver City decals are a fair match and went on perfectly.Following on from this, I have been looking for a couple more F-80c models. In 1/72nd, this is not a regularly kitted model. There is only the Airfix kit of this aircraft. Emhar do a different version, and that's it. I'm hoping that Airfix may look at re-releasing this kit, or better still, produce a replacement. As the only game in town, and some super schemes, the kit should do well. A re-run of the F-84F. Another classic from the range. Hoping to see these two reappear soon.
  20. I must say that I'm really pleased with the re-releases. Still awaiting those from the catalogues. Could I ask if there is a possibility of bringing back the following kits? 1/72nd scale. F-27 Friendship in it's original Aer Lingus scheme. DHC Beaver. Original AAC colours. McDonnell Banshee F2 F-80 Shooting Star. Douglas Skyray. OV-10A Bronco.
  21. I would like to see the following . . . 1/72nd Hurricane I with Metal Wing. ( New parts ) 1/72nd Tempest II or V ( New Tools ) 1/72nd Sea Fury FBII ( New tool.) 1/72nd Beaufighter ( Early version, with horizontal tail.) ( New parts) Also as a NF version. 1/72nd Mosquito BIV. ( New Tool ) 1/48th Hurricane I with Fabric wing. ( New parts) 1/48th Jet Provost T3 - T4 ( New tool ) 1/48th Vampire T11 ( New Tool ) 1/48th Vampire FB5 ( New Tool ) 1/48th Swift FR5 ( New Tool ) Others would be re-releases . . . . Fokker F-27 in original markings . . . Aer Lingus.BAC Trident.HP42DHC Beaver. Bronco Sabre D Skyray Cherokee Arrow Maybe some of the older cars, that are so hard to find these days. Sunbeam Rapier. Ford Capri Mk10 Jag BMC Mini, Maxi and 1100Morris Marina Austin Healy Sprite
  22. RMS Queen Elizabeth is already in the range. Just add RMS Queen Mary. All of us that currently have the Airfix liners would be interested in that one.
  23. I would like to be able to space comments out on these pages, but as soon as I save them, they end up in one long string. How can I get around this? Is this just a temporary glitch? This is another seperated line.
  24. An Airfix Queen Elizabeth class would be large and expensive, but should prove to be a good seller, especially in the UK. It won't be cheap. I would guess that RN Modellers would go for the new vessels, like the Type 26 frigates. 8 in the class, plus conversion for future ships too, as Canada, Australia and others have shown an interest in the type.Someone mentioned HMS Cavalier. Not a bad idea, when there were so many in the class. I would quite like to see Airfix do their classics in this scale. Cossack, Hotspur, Daring and Tiger etc. They need a special, stand out kit. Also mentioned above was Ark Royal. the last of the fixed wing carriers. Another One Off, was HMS Vanguard. Our last battleship. No one else has modelled it, apart from the oddly scaled Hasegawa kit. No one has done the WWI HMS Iron Duke yet. As for liners? The Queens would be my choice. The Queen Mary, now a hotel in America, and The Queen Elizabeth, that was lost in a fire. They could be built in Liner versions and Troopship versions. They would be magnificent, and wouldn't they sell. These could really get the full deluxe treatment. I can just see the box art now. Airfix have already dipped their toe in the water in this scale, so a new ship would be most welcome.
  25. This would complete the Bristol Twins. I'd buy it. I might buy a few.
