  1. Ed,

You seem to have posted multiple copies. Please remember that pictures have to be cleared by the moderators and much as we would like to we can't be on the site all the time. It takes a bit of time for your pictures to appear. grinning

Also remember to press "post reply" once and to wait a bit. Again, it takes time for the post to load. When you press it multiple times we end up with multiple copies of the same post!

Having said that ....keep posting and make sure you let us see pics of your build.

PS: Yes, I think the metal foil on the model looks good in real life! wink

  2. This is my attempt. I'm not sure whether I used kitchen foil or chocolate foil for the metal cowling. To fix the foil I painted both the cowling and the reverse side of the foil with varnish. When that was tacky I placed it on the cowling and rubbed it down with a cotton earbud.forum_image_627d4cca41d8e.thumb.png.be9b6c11137a0294776da1d43654e4f9.png

An interesting technique - how successful would you say it was...did you achieve the look / level of finish you were hoping for? I must try it myself!

  3. Hi Ed. I haven't bought one myself but I understand that it contains the Warhawk. Me-109 E-4 and the BAE systems Hawk 100 series. If you look at the rrp of the bundle on Airfix's home page it shows £35-97 which would tie in with that kit selection. It appears to me that they are putting cheaper kits into the bundles. I know the 1/35 tank bundle decreased by one kit (and aver £30 in value) but retained the £75 price tag. That said, they're still pretty good value if you don't mind a "lucky dip".

Thanks, Ken. Yes, I also thought that cheaper kits were now being put in the bundles but, as you say, you can still save money by buying a bundle - just not as much as before. However, the main reason I asked was because I wondered if there was a chance that the current aircraft bundle comprised models that I didn't have...but it looks as if I will have to wait at least a little longer for that to happen.
    Thanks again. Ed

  4. The kits currently available in the aircraft bundle are the E.E Lightning "gift set" (only one decal option), the Spitfire Vc (two options) and the Mustang (Tusegee Airmen scheme). If you check the bundle on the website it tells you, under "product info" when the contents were last updated. This selection was from 20th January 2022.

Thanks for the update - very useful.

  5. I'm a first time member. The first square on the passport has the image of a flying hour on it. Does that mean that the first flying hour is already given to you and you just need to fill the rest in as appropriate to the model you want, or is the image there just to show you where to put the first one?

    Thanks in advance.

  6. Having wondered about whether or not I should join the Airfix Club I received membership as a surprise Christmas present. I didn't already have the Kate model so was happy to receive that and wanted a copy of the Airfix model list book so I was pleased to receive that too.

It also gives me the opportunity to trade in the flying hours I have collected.

On the other hand, I though the magazine was a bit underwhelming.

Overall (considering I didn't pay for it!) I'm pleased with it, but the Hawks don't float my boat, so will I renew it at the end of the year...?

    Decisions, decisions...

  7. If you fancy trying it out start with something easy .... say an escort carrier like HMS Audacity. It's honestly not that difficult. It's also much easier as a waterline as you don't have the issue with complex underwater curves. You might also find you can to use parts from some Airfix kits ....like the Swordfish from the Ark Royal. A 1:600 Audacity will sit nicely next to the Ark Royal.

Very interesting - thank you. Maybe I will find the courage to give it a go someday!
