  1. The two Railroad Deltics are now showing in the shop with TXS suffixes and not TTS. As suspected they are obviously being changed to TXS decoders.
  2. The decoders and dongle are pencilled in for May, so I guess by then at the latest.
  3. Simple question - do all the sound decoders come with a speaker and the sprue to make up a suitable enclosure? Thanks James
  4. The two Railroad Deltics with TTS have moved today from Spring 2023 to Autumn 2023. This might support the possibility of them moving to TXS chips.
  5. I suspect they have made it unavailable until people like me, order the sound version and cancel the non sound version so they can get their numbers straight.
  6. DP1 is definitely Q4 2024 because I asked them. Don’t mind what sound the railroads come with but interesting (not complaining!) all the same. RAF96 - have you heard the sound on TXS? Curious as to opinions on it.
  7. One of my questions has been answered as a DP1 with the same product number but with TXS sound with a ‘TXS’ suffix has appeared on the website for £30 more, which is reasonable for a sound decoder and speaker.
  8. So reading the 2023 catalogue, DP1 comes with TXS. On the website it says DCC ready, although Simon said in the launch video it came with sound. Also the two TTS Railroad Deltics due this Spring in the catalogue are shown as having TXS decoders although the website says they they are TTS (as originally specified). Anyone got any further clarity?
  9. First priority of a business is to survive. If products are priced too high, they will not all sell but equally if they do all sell, they may be under-priced. Put simply, if it’s too expensive to me, I won’t buy it, but if it sells out that’s good for Hornby and the hobby.
  10. Ive read some of their financials and they are undoubtedly in an improving performance including growing gross margin which is a good indicator of many issues like cost control. It has the appearance of a business that is recovering well. The investment company that owns them has let them invest in TT and HM7000 to name a couple of fairly expensive developments. That is not the sign of a ‘fire sale’ mentality. I think we will see some good progress this year.
  11. Apologies Fishmanoz - is that peak or continuous?
  12. What’s the power output in amps of the decoders? This is for retro-fitting to older models.
  13. Sorry but a little underwhelmed. For modellers on a budget there wasn’t much apart from a couple of Railroad locos that looked interesting. Disappointing support for sound and particularly TTS which is great value. No apparent re- runs of the existing range and would like to have seen the Deltic TTS chip available separately. Finally I would love a DP1 as I am a big Deltic fan, but £320?? I have a Bachmann DP1 which was about 1/2 of that which may just have to suffice - The Accurascale Deltic was a triumph and on that basis I have a 37 about to arrive - they are turning out superb models with custom sound for £250-£270. I know what you will say - “don’t buy it then” - agreed but a little disappointed Update - I’m less disappointed now having digested all the detail. HM7000 could be a triumph and assuming we get a CL55 sound file, addresses all my TTS concerns. I’ve ordered the TXS Class 73 so we will see how it performs when it arrives. The DP1 is due Winter next year, so although a lot of money, there is plenty of time to save up for it should I choose that option. Will take time to buy catalogue and look in more detail now.
  14. Could just have been burning off excess oil or sometimes if carbon gets stuck in the commutator slots, it can burn and smoke. The big question is have you melted the insulation in the coils. Stick a meter across the commutator plates and measure resistance - if they are the same you should be fine. Memory serves it should be 15 - 20 ohms per winding. Armature should spin freely and add voltage in at low values and see if it will spin freely first.
  15. Thank you very much for the advice. Regards James
  16. Thanks for all the help. The switch does turn the channel on / off. The problem is there appears to be suitable replacements with a spline shaft but not a D shaft - been to the websites but not available. Called Hornby but they weren’t much help. The manufacturer of the originals appears to be “1H”. Any further help still appreciated. For info body is about 11mm deep, the shaft is 20mm long and the D part is about 12mm.
  17. Don’t forget, when all designs are on CAD, creating TT designs I’d relatively straightforward.
  18. I know it’s been on a previous thread but has anyone had any luck identifying replacement potentiometers for the HM2000? The spec is 22k linear with on off switch.
  19. I tried the decoder in a HobbyTrax decoder tester and the behaviour was replicated. I am confident the model is working well with some limited DC testing
  20. Tried that and no difference. I’m going to assume it’s a faulty decoder. It’s unbranded so I’m not thinking it’s a great decoder.
  21. It’s just this decoder. I wondered if there is a CV needs changing. Next move is to change the decoder. Thanks James
  22. I picked up a Hornby GWR Railcar at a swap-meet yesterday, fitted with a compact 8 pin DCC chip of unknown make except the main chip says 'ATMEL Mega 168'? on it. When I accelerate very slowly, the motor stops after turning the controller anywhere between 1/3 - 1/2 way. Bringing it back to zero and starting again the motor turns. If I turn the control to full in one go, it accelerates up to full speed and runs fine. I'm using a Hornby Select. Any ideas would be really appreciated. Thanks James
  23. The China issue is a red herring. Production moved to the Far East years ago because it was so much cheaper than Europe and almost every industry does it. Equally Covid has had a massive impact on production schedules as well as a shortage of electronic chips world wide and a massive increase in shipping costs and shortage of containers for shipping. My only complaint would be I would like someone to define what 'Summer 2022' actually means? I would also like for Hornby to be more open about delays - they move dates (TTS Deltics originally July 2021 and now 'Spring 2023') without explanation, and most modellers would understand these delays if explained. Look at how well Accurascale communicated the delays to their Deltic - frustrating but at least I knew what was happening and why.
