  1. I brought a Hornby Jinty at a Model Railway Exhibition a couple of years ago, it was fitted with a 4pin DCC decoder, like yours it less than the cost of a decoder, it ran perfectly on DC, I set up a DCC controller to read the decoder, the decoder was not recognised and I was unable to reprogram it, later I tried the decoder on a decoder tester/programmer it did not respond, I put in a replacement decoder and all worked OK.
  2. I would definitely have a couple, probably more, there were only 15 W class engines.
  3. In one of the Ian Allan conbined volumes there is a picture of a 2EPB Motor coach coupled to a 2BIL trailer, this was in departmental use so it was unlikely to have been used for passengers. The Southern Region found itself short of of loco hauled air braked stock in the late 1960's early1970's, 5 augmentation trailers that had been in store fo about 10 years were refurbished, a 2BIL unit had its motor removed and the trailer cars inserted inserted between the exmotor coaches and the driving trailer, these were formed into a loco hauled trailer unit, this unit worked over unelectricfied tracks, after an overhaul there was a fire in the exmotor coach the uniit was withdrawn, 3 of the augmentation trailer coaches were reused in 2 short lived 4Sub units Nos. 4131 which consisted of 2HAL motor coaches and 2 of the trailers and 4132 again 2HAL motor coaches which used one of the trailers and anothe spare trailer the others trailers were as replacements for damaged trailers in other units.
  4. For my 48DS I used a Gaugemaster DCC23 6 pin decoder as I had a couple spare I found no problems fitting it and it ran perfectly first time the body was refitted with no issues, the Gaugemaster DCC93 from pictures I have seen looks identical to the DCC23.
  5. You have to remove the stub of the old whistle and drill a small hole for the replacement whistle, I have replaced several without so far damaging the fine pipe work in the cab. Looking at the Electrotren model (cat No. E0045) to replace the whistle the stub of the old whistle has to be drilled out as well as the operating arm, there is no fine pipe work in the cab on this loco, the Electrotren/Jouef whistle is made from plastic is more robust than the whistle fitted to the Peckett's.
  6. In Hornby's Electrotren range some of the 0-6-0T's have a similar exposed fragile whistle, in the box is a small plastic bag with a spare whistle. These models cost half the price of the Peckett's, how much would it cost Hornby to put a spare whistle in with every Peckett, Hattons wisely put brass whistles on their Barclays. I have been buying old scrap loco bodys from Toy Fairs & Exhibitions and using the brass whistles from these to replace missing whistles on my Pecketts.
  7. About 20 years ago a shop I went into, though not a model shop sold some trains, on the shelves were a number of yellow Triang boxes with TT guage models these had not been sold so are new but over 30 years old.
  8. The Jouef model is part of their Jouef Junior Line I have a box in front of me that has the Cat..No HR2215.
  9. You can often pick up a pre-owned one on a certain auction site for less, the chassis is used under three different models I avoid the saddle tank engines as with some batches there is a problem with motor failure, spare motors seem to be non existent, to try and reclaim some of you're expenditure you can try and sell the bodys. In the early 1970's I remember buying Triang Jinties and Wrenn R1's for their chassis for use under Wills body kits, this was just after the 3 day week when the items were in short supply or unavailable.
  10. I think they are new kits ARC did a small Barclay to fit the Hornby/Dapol pug chassis, if I remember correctly the one that used the Electrotren/Jouef 0-6-0 chassis was a Robert Stevenson tank loco one version had stright side tanks the other sloped side tanks, I have one to build at sometime.
  11. I have brought a number of the Electrotren/Jouef 0-6-0's for their chassis for use with ARC kit bodys, in all cases I have had to buy the whole loco, judging by the number of Electrotren/Jouef bodys apearing on eBay many people are buying them for their chassis. You can often pick them up on the auction sites for about £40 I have rarely paid more, very occasionally a chassis on it's own will be listed, often fetching more than a complete loco.
  12. Nylon bolts for converting early Hornby Ringfield motors to DCC are available from Peter's Spares.
  13. A new power supply for my Ecos, with the old power supply you only had to touch the controller and it would trip out, thinking it needed a costly repair I brought a new Ecos I tried the old Ecos with the new power supply all the problems disappeared.
  14. I have never had any problems with my Hornby Elite, I have a mixture of dcc decoders including some that were 4 for £10.00 they have all worked with the Elite with no problems.
