  1. Hopefully the next batch of Scotsmans will be coming in at the same time ?
  2. Ha, no loop back for me, my plan is pretty much nailed down now (final tweaks to plan today to allow shunting without straying onto mainline ... (eventually, might have to compromise and have a newer diesel shunter in my planed loose WW2 era setting). It will be a small bridge rather than your glorious viaduct. Its more the cutting the board and having the tunnel below track level that hadn't occurred to me, so thanks for that thumbsup
  3. Yes, I also want to play with .. hold on, you know what I mean grinning Looks like I am going to have to spring for an Elite. I had looked at some alternatives but TBH the Elite looks to be able to do all I need and the alternatives in the same price point SH don't look as appealing (many are 1a or 2a max and look more complicated). The question now is it worth getting it new considering its only £75 more than the cheapest SH I can find .... I tried negotiating down to £175 for a SH one but they aren't playing ball kissing_closed_eyes
  4. Thanks all. Would you say £190 for a S/H Elite is decent value ?
  5. Thank you, fellow HHGTTG fan blush The HM chips are only for use with the app system, or do they work with normal controllers ?
  6. Looking good Rallymat smile I love the viaduct, I wont have room for one in my plans, but I may now steal the method for a small bridge if I can fit it. Loving how you have really bought the buildings to life with lights, details and weathering.
  7. Hi both, thanks for the replies blush Title trap ? ... thats a new one to me stuck_out_tongue I was attempting an introduction too, but did not see a section for that so I thought I would cover both bases. But yes, I had seen the app thingie, and I am a strange mix of technology lover and luddite ! The upshot of which, is I don't like the app idea for control, I want a nice physical control box. I noticed that the TT locos will have a "Next 18" chip fitting, but atm no sound chip for those , presumably that will be on the horizon ? for now I will just use a non sound chip. In order to get myself underway, I decided to start with the (hopefully imminent) analogue set, but plan to buy the next locos pre chipped when available, as it appears to be cheaper ? I had seen the "select" controllers SH on the auction site, but having to send to Hornby for a firmware update puts me off. The "elite" looks good, but pricey. I half expected GM would have something suitable for entry level, but it seems not.
  8. Hi guys, new here ! I actually just ordered a few bits of track to get a feel of its size in the flesh,so to speak. Pre-orded the Scotsman set, my first set or model railway stuff since I was a little kid. Its my Fathers fault, I helped get him started on his OO layout, and kind of got to want my own. I didn't have room for OO, but TT has remedied that so I embark on a new adventure ! Already have the track plan ( adjusted the one I did for my father to be a double loop) and hope to go DCC, but the stumbling block for that is not realising how expensive the controllers are ! Any recommendations for a decent, but inexpensive as possible, controller ? I probably will only ever have 4 engines maximum running at any one time (likely only 3 TBH) and plan to have the points manually controlled with servos and toggle switches.
