vimal_indrasoma
Nice cottages. Perhaps a little dilute oil-paint wash to bring out the texture? You could differentiate the three by varying the shade of the wash.
Ratch
I've only built one of the cottages so far, and it was built strictly to the Airfix instructions (except for the thatch).

Ratch
A while since I did anything to this, but I've just finished a couple of wagonshttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412607426.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412607427.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412607428.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412607429.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412607430.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412607431.jpg

Ratch
Thanks John, many modelling skills are transferable. I find it annoying when folks say this is my first *insert genre here* as though they've never made a kit before. Equally those who say they'll never build a certain genre because it would be too hard - if we don't try we'll never know.
Ratch
I've decided to build this Brake Van...http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24713806/412563250.jpgbut the sharp-eyed amongst you will have noticed that there are no wheels and one end of the compartment is missing. I had to get some replacement wheels from the railway section of the Model Shop and scratch-build the panel.http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24741124/412995169.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24741124/412995170.jpg Attempting to copy the end panel in 40 thou Plastikardhttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24741124/412995171.jpg The missing vacuum cylinder replaced with shaped runnerhttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24741124/412995172.jpgThe replacement Hornby wheels run sweetly I've decided to scratch a (very basic) interiorhttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24741124/412995173.jpg Vallejo Model Color 1 70951 Whitehttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24741124/412995174.jpg
Pretty Mediocre Modeller
Nice bit of scratch building there Ratch (referring to thread in general discussion!). I'd almost forgotten about your Long Taxal layout, how's it coming? Jason
Ratch
Thanks Jason, it's an on/off project. Other things crop up and this gets pushed into the background, but I do return to it, as you can see. I will need to make some repairs when I get back on the baseboards. Ratch
I've crudely scratchbuilt a stove and the brake handlehttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24741124/413007339.jpg I decided to use Humbrol Acrylic 160 German Camouflage Red Brown for the floorboards and had this happenhttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24749108/413007336.jpgDisregard the white and maroon, they'll do for what I want. I often hear folks cry that their paint won't adhere to the plastic, that the paint is expelled by the plastic. That's exactly what appears to be happening here. With quick drying acrylic paints it takes not long and just a few coats to cover - a second coat.http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24749108/413007337.jpgNot quite right yet, but an improvement, so a third coathttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24749108/413007338.jpgMuch better coverage, adequate for my job.http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24749108/413007340.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24749108/413007341.jpg
