Ratch
Fitting the tail was awkwardhttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412797797.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412797798.jpgThe struts seem too short if the tails are pushed flush up to the fuselage/finThere may be a slight anhedral therehttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412797799.jpg http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412797800.jpg There are options for the legs.http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412797801.jpgKnobbed extensions to both legs, a siren propeller to the port leg or plain legs. As I have another fuel tank coming, I'll build this as an R-2 and so far my research indicates plain legs for the R-2 variants but I'm open to suggestions. Discopop
Just getting back into modelling which I haven't really done since my youth and have to say I am in awe of the work you are doing!
Ratch
Thanks very much. I class myself as an average modeller, prone to many of the errors that others make too. But then I do this for fun and my own enjoyment, not to be competetive.I fixed the tail & struts that I'd glued in the wrong place. http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412807183.jpg A test fit of the nose panels indicate that these will either have to be fixed securely or left offhttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412807185.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412807186.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412807187.jpg I'll be displaying this one grounded, so the legs are compressedhttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412807188.jpg The outer wing sectionshttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412807184.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412807189.jpgI have also received another fuel tank, so this will be built as an R-
Ratch
Here the tanks are dry fitted before painting.http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412821204.jpg Fitting the wings.http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412821208.jpg My intention is to secure as much as possible before I start spraying.http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412821209.jpg Then to add decals, but that's still a way off.http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412821211.jpg Part 301 has two lugs projecting out of the rear. I think these need cutting off.http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412821210.jpg Thanks for looking.
John Symmons
Starting to look like a Stuka with the wings on, coming along nicely. Looks like you're right about the lugs as they don't seem to be on the corresponding piece on the other side, good luck.Waiting for more.Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
Kenneth ONeill
I can't be sure with the slightly soft focus on part 301, but those look as much like ejector pin marks as they do locating pins IMO.

Pretty Mediocre Modeller
Looking Good Ratch. You are a very prolific builder, now many kits do you complete in an average year? I aim for about 12-15.
Ratch
Thanks. I don't set targets, it all depends on how much spare time I have. Over the last 5 years I've built 46, 40, 54, 84 & 113, but this year only 26 so far, so I won't reach my average of 67.
John Symmons
Wow! 67 kits a year? Thats over 1.25 kits a week. I'm lucky if I can manage one a month. At present I'm doing the 1/72 Me 109E-7 Trop togeter with the Heller & Academy ones as a comparision build, so far it;s taken me over 5 weeks & I'm only up to the painting stage.Any-way keep up the good work, love seeing your builds, and this Stuka is turning out to be a magnium opus.Remember we do this for fum John the Pom

Ratch
To bring you up to date, priming and pre-shading is donehttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412842003.jpg The under surfaces sprayed with Vallejo Model Air 71008 Pale Bluehttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412842004.jpg To get the splinter spray right I've taped the cowling panels togetherhttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412842005.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412842007.jpgI think the fit looks better than in the previous pictures The canopy sections were masked the old-fashioned wayhttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412842008.jpg For RLM71 I chose Vallejo Model Air 71020 German Green, which seems like quite a good match to Humbrol Acrylic AB0242 RLM71 Dunkelgrun and the chip in GERMAN AIRCRAFT OF WORLD WAR 2 in colour, ISBN 0 7137 0860 3http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412842009.jpg The small bitshttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412842010.jpgThat's it for today, I'll let the paint dry thoroughly before masking the splinter pattern. Ratch
Having allowed 24 hours for the paints to fully cure before masking the splinter camouflage pattern over the upper surfaces I had a bit of a disaster. Trimming the tape indicated that the previously applied paint was lifting.http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412845706.jpg Removal of the tape (after airbrushing RLM71) confirmed my fears.http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412845707.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412845708.jpg I touched up using the Humbrol RLMs applied with a brush and blended in with an open respray.http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412845709.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24726828/412845710.jpg
John Symmons
Hi Ratch.I'm sure I could just make out you swearing on the northerly wind in Cape Town, that is so annoying when that happens. I'm doing the 109 at present with plenty of masking that'll only be removed after the final spray, hope it doesn't happen to me. You have my sympathy, but the rescue looks good. Oh, the trials and tribulations of plastic modelling.Remember we do this for fun John the Pom

Ratch
Finally complete!Junkers Ju 87R-2 of 4./StG 2, Libya, circa March 1941. Like other early arrivals in North Africa she wears the European 70/71 splinter scheme. The white spinner tip is reportedly a Staffel-within-Gruppe recognition aid. Soon after the start of their desert service 4. Staffel replaced their original four-leaf clover badge with the more appropriate emblem of a Luftwaffe eagle superimposed over the Afrika Korps palm tree and swastika, carried on the starboard side of the cowling only. http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412855315.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412855310.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412855316.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412855319.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412855322.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412855321.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412855327.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412855330.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412855320.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412855318.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412855317.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412855328.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24723857/412855329.jpg
