FT
OK - so how do you get the Tender top off the earlier James & Gordon??
NWR-Gordon-4
FT, which Gordon and James are talking about? Going Spare
There are thin horizontal lugs on the top surface of the metal tender chassis frame which locate in to small recesses moulded in the bottom of each side of the tender body. These are approximately one third of the body length in from the front and the rear on each side. By squeezing inwards the front and rear of the body, the sides can sometimes be made to spring out sufficiently to allow the chassis lugs to drop out. If not, it will be necessary to introduce a thin blade or plastic carefully between the bottom of the body and the top of the chassis at a corner and gently work it along the side until the lugs are prised out.GS

NWR-Gordon-4
The first release of Gordon. No, I sorry I don't know how the body is removed. Do you have to unscrew some screws on the chassis? I don't know. GNR-Gordon-4 (HF)

FT
have a look at ss247b https://www.hornby.com/uk-en/downloads/view/index/cat/21/Yes, looked at that but it gives no clue HOW to get the top off. Normally, it would come off as described by 'Going Spare' but it is not that design. Both tops seem to be rigid as if they are held on by screws, but I cannot see any anywhere. Very frustrating. walkingthedog
What do you mean by both tops?
NWR-Gordon-4
Brian (walkingthedog), perhaps FT is talking about the tender boy piece, the top the tender piece, perhaps, when he / she was referring to tender tops. GNR-Gordon-
walkingthedog
There is only one tender top. Perhaps he is also now referring to the loco top.
NWR-Gordon-4
Perhaps FT is. I don't know and you don't know. We will have to wait until FT comes back and posts a reply and hopefully they will shed some light, as to what they mean by "tender tops"! 😆 😉 😀 GNR-Gordon-4 (HF)
dynax
2 tenders, one each for james and gordon equals both tops, the ss for gordon shows the lugs where it clips on, might just need some gentle fettling,
walkingthedog
Oh yes good thinking. Doh! A strip of thin plastic pushed up between the top and chassis and a gentle bit of manipulation should release it.

walkingthedog
Prise the side up and slide some thin plastic in the gap. Use it to release the clips. It will work.
