Airfix wind up clockwork bay chicken in top hat

A request please from anyone for some historic insight into an Airfix item that I have had for 65 years.

It is a yellow with red waistcoat baby chicken with a top hat. I was given it in 1955 for Christmas, it still works very well, although its chirping sound has diminished somewhat. I have looked online and found no information on it, and was wondering if it had any value at all.

I have attached a couple of pictures, one of which shows the base of one of the feet that states "AIRFIX Products in Plastic MADE IN ENGLAND".

Thank you to anyone that might have an idea.

There you go. It was produced in the mid-1950's. Not sure what it's worth. Probably nothing like the unbuilt kits from those days but there are collectors of anything Airfix.

This is part of page 15 of the book by Arthur Ward - "The other side of Airfix." Well worth a read!

Thank you so much for the info. Actually I'm not so much concerned in its financial value, but more as its value to a collector as part of a collection, as it has indisputable charm and I think that it deserves to be saved.

I'm downsizing and de-cluttering and along with that, the inevitable question, of what to do with things, including this and the hundreds of kits that I have.

I'm going to look out the book that you mention, and I might know just the bloke that will have it and lend it to me.

To conclude, I am delighted that there is this forum dedicated to all things Airfix; the kits with the paper header and parts in a plastic bag, were my first foray into model building; a basic one was 1s 6d. nigh on sixty years later, I still like to buy one and build it, and they still bring me great joy.

Thank you again for your reply.
