Torment30
After many years of mostly Warhammer I took an interest in model ships. At the start of the year I saw the mystery bundles on the Airfix website and I thought I would have a go at them. So here are my first 4 attempts at Airfix Aircraft. jopres57
Since the start of the new year I’ve been having a bit of binge build of old kits from my stash. I don’t usually build my really old kits but these are a few of the exceptions; all are Airfix apart from the Frog Phantom and Skua. The Phantom had some replacement pylons and bombs added, plus some after-market decals. The Jaguar was built straight from the box using the kit decals, another unusual event for me. The others were also out of the box with some additional decals added to a greater or lesser extent.I did some research on RAF Phantoms but couldn’t determine whether or not they had actually flown with ejector racks on the outer pylons and Bullpup missiles, so I’ll depend on the knowledge of the kit design team. The Skyhawk was pictured on the kit box with red markings on the wing tanks but I guessed they would actually be blue considering the squadron ( VA-34 ) was known as the ‘Blue Blasters’. These are definitely vintage kits (about the same age as me ) but were enjoyable builds, I have a soft spot for the original Messerschmitt 109G especially. jopres57
Nice display of Mustangs. It's interesting how even the early olive drab versions can end up looking colourful.
SD45elect2000
Thank you, I like the green ones too. I got a bunch of Mustangs to do, mostly natural metal ones, then I think it might be Lightning time.

jopres57
Like the black scheme. I just wondered, what scale is the model and are those kit decals?
Ratch
It looks 1/72, not an Airfix kit or scheme.
SD45elect2000
It looks 1/72, not an Airfix kit or scheme. Correct, It's a P-38 M night fighter from Dragon I think. I do not know who makes the best P-38 in 1/72 scale but it's not this one.
SD45elect2000
Two newest !/72 P-51 mustangs. I hope no one is getting tired of Mustangs. I tend to do binges, this month it's mustangs,

SD45elect2000
Good metal finish on those two, what paint do you use? I used Alclad metal finishes. I'm slowly getting used to the stuff. So far I've only used it on small fighters, I am wondering how it would look on a B-29 or something bigger? Randall

jopres57
About the Skyhawk. My last build of this kit was done in 2012/2013 :That's a good build Gilbert, I think your blue shade is probably more accurate than mine. Have you seen any colour pictures of this squadron, I can only find black and white. I know there are decals available of a later version of an A4 from this unit. Hello jopres57,Among other things, I used the above two illustrations for reference. The side view comes from Squadron/signal publication's "USN Aircraft Carrier Air Units 1946-1956".I did not find any original colour pictures of this particular plane.Kind regards, Gilbert
