Sadly the teams are demanding a extortionate amount of money for licences money which Hornby cannot afford plus some teams ie Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull have exclusive deals with other manufacturers ie Revell which are very very long term which makes current F1 cars very expensive to licence which means the money that Hornby has to pay for licences means that the current F1 cars would be costing at least £65-£70

There is a video out there where the then Hornby employee Adrian Norman outlined what they went through to get the Mclaren P1 into production.

If memory serves the up front kost was over 50k of His Majesty's Pounds plus they had to sell at least X number of cars with money going back to McLaren for each sale. And even if they didn't sell X cars the same amount would go to McLaren...

It isn't cheap...

That is why I keep pushing for cars like Porsche 924/944 or 928 as well as sport cars like Triumph Spitfires and GT6s as they should be easy to get the rights too (Porsche lost a suit many years ago that allows anyone to make a model in the shape of their cars...)
