Recommended Posts

My approach to tank tracks is a little more complex:

Prime tracks with Vallejo Acrylic 74601 Grey Polyurethane Surface Primer

Airbrush worn metal Vallejo Model Air 71072 Gunmetal (Metallic) / Vallejo Model Color 70863 179 Gunmetal Grey RAL9007 RLM3 FS37200

Mask

Add basic tones Vallejo Model Air 71075 Sand + Vallejo Model Air 71023 Hemp FS34201 + Vallejo Model Color 70540 Matte Medium / Vallejo Model Color 70819 124 Iraqi Sand + Vallejo Model Color 70847 123 Dark Sand FS33722 + Vallejo Model Color 70540 Matte Medium

Vallejo Game Color 73200 Sepia Wash with a flat wide brush

Vallejo Game Color 73202 Pale Grey Wash + Vallejo Game Color 73203 Umber Wash + Vallejo 27651 Polyurethane Matt Varnish

Vallejo Panzer Aces 302 Dark Rust + Vallejo Model Color 70822 150 German Camouflage Black Brown RAL8019 FS37056 dry brush over cleats

Seems a bit complex for the jump from just using gunmetal, but thanks for the list.
I was going to start with a dark iron equivalent with silver highlights as a starter for 10.
Don't fancy the tamiya paints as they are described as a hybrid acrylic

I don't like Tamiya paints either.

This is how my method turns out

Not all Tamiya paints are the same. They do an enamel range (not generally available in the UK), Tamiya Acrylic, which is a spirit based, water miscible acrylic and Tamiya Lacquer Paint, which is a lacquer based acrylic. Both types of acrylic are best airbrushed.
