This build is being done by my grandson, who was 14 last week.

Lewis examines the instructions.

Initially the seats were put on the wrong end, but it was obvious they needed to be swapped around.

That's better.

Identifying parts amongst the jumble of pieces takes time.

Lewis knows when he's got it right because of the positive fit.

It took about ab hour to get this far.

Lewis then had to go to football training. He's hoping to resume on Thursday.

Lewis resumed construction today at step 11.

Quickly it became apparent that some earlier construction was not fully seated.

Much like proper kits, the tolerances of this Lego-type of assembly is very tight.

This was quite a tricky build.

We could not eliminate all the gaps – as one piece was located, another popped off.

Despite the difficulties, Lewis said he enjoyed building it and wanted to take it home (which he has).

The box says 6+, so maybe we’re poorly skilled modellers. I would have been disappointed with it. Maybe Lewis’ modelling innocence has a low bar of expectations, much like I did as a child, and that’s where experienced modellers lose sight of the delight children get from just building and not fixating on accuracy, perfect fit, and all the other standards we set ourselves as we get older.

Lewis says it was fun to build, and that’s what counts.

Great job Lewis! Thanks for sharing Lewis’ build with us Ratch. My experience with my granddaughters building these Quick Build kits is that the fit and engineering is so good they make a remarkable model and are sure help to build confidence.

I remember my first attempt at a plastic kit and a tube of cementjoy…it wasn’t pretty.

Thanks again and great job Lewis.

Cheers,

Tim

  • 2 weeks later...

looks good Lewis well done.

my son has built a few of the aircraft he likes them and they look good built and he's done a few cars he's enjoyed them all. I've built the campervan the roof is a bit like the bus you just have to take that risk line up the roof and then push down with some pressure some times it works and sometimes the windows go flying, my campervan has rolled off the side a few times and hit the floor😂
