wapples
Hi all a tricky one but hopefully not for you talented people.NOTE I have sent several enquiries to Woodland Scenics & still no response as yet.I have been working on a highly detailed boat.I want to display it in a canal with the water wrapped around it like on other parts of my layout. HOWEVERI still want the ability to pickup the boat up so people can view it close up.DO I take some Airclay or Blu tac or similar and cut a footprint out of the boat lay it into scenePOUR (Woodland Scenics Realistic water or DEEP POUR [2 part mix]{most likely} .Then once dry just hack out that clay or similar?Iam sure there is a trick to this. & Look forward to hearing it. I was hoping i could just wrap the boat in a non stick (baking Paper / Cling Film Material) and tada. All advice greatly received.OP
Sailorman
If it's highly detailed why remove it? If people handle it you are asking for it to be damaged.I don't think it will be easy to pick up without damaging it either.
Ratch
This is a copy of a post from the ATF, unfortunately the images have expired.1st stepGlue on an isolation styrene base the 4 wooden profiles 2nd stepWhen the glue is dry seal the wooden profile joint with a wood paste or mastic ,when it s dry clean up the joint . 3rd stepThen remove with a good saw the upper surface of the base to level the top of the base where the ship will be placed, then clean up the base to have a flat surface4th stepWith a pencil outline the shape of the hull and then cut out this shapeTo be sure of the depth of the hull you can glue 2 blocks on the hole5th stepThen protect with a paper scotch the wooden former and protect the model with cling film and sculpt the sea with a polyfilla paste. When it s begging to dry remove carefuly the model and the clingfilm...So you have now a very simply sea base, it s very easy to make
