Humbrol Weathering Products?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone used the Humbrol weathering products?

I love getting my hands on complete sets and collections of modelling accessories as I then feel I have all may bases covered when approaching my model making, in this case, a bit of serious weathering.

This Weathering Starter Pack Bundle via the Airfix shop includes

  • Brush pack - Stipple Brush pack
  • Weathering pens
  • Smart Mud
  • Chipping agent
  • Aging powders
  • Weathering powders
  • and a 1:35 scale model as good as thrown in!

I think the packs include bottles smaller than when purchased individually, but it seems a great way to try out another brand.

Thoughts?

Yes, they're fine, a bit like Mig Pigments. The washes are Ok but mine dried up over time.

@Ratch thanks for the feedback. I’ve got the tail end of a set of Mig weathering powders so was thinking about what to replace them with.

I guess at least being smaller pots, these may stay fresh to the end.

Coincidentally I recently switch from the large to mid sized bottles of Vallejo’s primer for the same reason. The large bottles just started to dry up resulting in lumps blocking my airbrush! 🤷‍♂️

With all these products, it depends on how often you're going to use them. If I was a dedicated armour modeller, they may have all been used up before they had a chance to dry up. The powders don't go off though.

@dogsbody I too have a couple of the Tamiya Weathering pads. I’ve got most use from the soot, rust and mud colours finding them rather good for adding grime and exhaust marks.

I’ve also found replacement eye makeup pads perfect to replace the pads that I wear out due to overzealous application! Applying over rough areas, such as rivets, bolts or sharp edges, can soon take its toll. I do like their neat and tidy format.

Like these!
My youngest daughter is a makeup specialist and can get me these at an employee discount.

Yes … that’s the sort of thing 👍

Just visit your closest source of makeup supplies. If unsure, check with your closest adult female.
