MattR
Evening all i bought an old Hornby class 47 today - one of the Silverseal ones with the metal frame. It is quite badly marked and I was wondering if it is mazak rot (pictures attached). Presumably if it is there’s not much I can do? Thanks Matt
Going Spare
I doubt it. Rather, the consequence of having been stored for some time in a damp environment? There is no mention of this chassis in the master Mazak Rot affected locos list on RMweb and I have not found any other post in this Forum. Tony57
Hi Mazak Rot will make the metal expand or crumble, it looks like the black finish has worn away, just repaint the metal chassis with a black spray paint.
Brew Man
I bought a Hornby T9 recently and when I removed the body to find out why the gears were not meshing, the entire chassis fell out in pieces. Now that's Mazak rot. Fortunately I was able to obtain replacements for all the affected parts and it is now restored to health. atom3624
I'm 100% with T57 on this one - looks fine, just the paint's worn off. MAZAK rot will deform the affected area, where it will crack and crumble - yours appears dimensionally correct. Does the body fit without issue, or is it tight or even impossible to fit? Al. Kristian-353752
As others have already said it does not look like Mazak rot. Attached is a picture of a Hornby Merchant Navy front bogie that had Mazak rot. It is very clear to see the expansion cracking and flaking paint.
