Possible mazak rot?

Evening all

i bought an old Hornby class 47 today - one of the Silverseal ones with the metal frame. It is quite badly marked and I was wondering if it is mazak rot (pictures attached). Presumably if it is there’s not much I can do?

Thanks

Matt

I doubt it.  Rather, the consequence of having been stored for some time in a damp environment?  There is no mention of this chassis in the master Mazak Rot affected locos list on RMweb and I have not found any other post in this Forum.

I bought a Hornby T9 recently and when I removed the body to find out why the gears were not meshing, the entire chassis fell out in pieces. Now that's Mazak rot. Fortunately I was able to obtain replacements for all the affected parts and it is now restored to health.

I'm 100% with T57 on this one - looks fine, just the paint's worn off.

MAZAK rot will deform the affected area, where it will crack and crumble - yours appears dimensionally correct.  Does the body fit without issue, or is it tight or even impossible to fit?

Al.
