Airfix - What's your Latest Acquisition?

Recommended Posts

I've been doing some 'Lockdown' online shopping while working from home and being very bored.

The Xtradecals are for the Typhoon, I know it includes the same display scheme, but there are another 4 Typhoons on the sheet. I plan to do an 11 Sqn one with black tail and spine.

Looking forward to the Demon as something a little different to my normal diet.

Are they kits?

No they are not kits, Ratch. They are pre-made tankers, for my OO gauge model railway.

@Pretty mediocre modeller

I do not blame you, for doing some 'lockdown online shopping'! I have been doing that too. As humans, we need something to during this lockdown. We cannot going out, apart from to buy essentials, but they can't tell us to stay indoors with nothing to do!  😆 😉  😀

Great purchases.  😉  😀

Like others, I've been having a spot of lockdown retail therapy. These are feeding my 1940 obsession, with a focus on the countries that ended up being over-run by the German forces.

The Fairey Fox is a resin kit. So, that's one vac-fiorm and one full resin kit in my stash. So much for trying to keep to only injection moulded kits!  😆

Airfix A05135      Supermarine Spitfire FR Mk.XIV

Excito Decals ED48005    "Sweet Fourteens" - Supermarine Spitfire Mk. XIV...

The Pavla V72-93 Canopy has the bevelled windscreen used on the F-86A and early F-86E. When used with the 1/72nd Airfix Sabre 4 / F-86E(M) will allow for accurate modeling of the F-86E(M) as used by Greece and Turkey. The other F-86 stuff is for the parts box./media/tinymce_upload/49d0dd6e514ce9ece92576e27f59f1cd.jpg

I have been waiting for the Airfix Spitfire FR Mk.XIV to arrive at my local hobby shop since its release last year but finally decided to order it online. Glad to have it. When it comes in at the hobby shop, I will have to build another one or two.

The Excito Decals are of keen interest to me. The decals for Spitfire 2I-M TZ198 of 443 (Hornet) Squadron, No. 126 Wing RCAF Uetersen, BAFO, RAF 1946 are based on pictures that I have a personal connection to. In the early 1990’s, I was able to arrange for a local chap, Ex-Warent Officer Julien (Jay) Shymko to print a set of 18 of his personal WW2 B&W pictures from his time with 126 Wing at Uetersen in 1945-46, one set for me and one set for Robert Bracken author of Spitfire the Canadians vol 1 & 2 to be printed. Many of Jay’s pictures made it into Robert’s books./media/tinymce_upload/b8a5877f50ffc737bfa701568343ddf6.jpg

How appropriate that Excito has included in the lower picture on the decal sheet instructions, Jay Shymko in a typical hero shot that also shows the “Bugs Bunny” artwork on the nose cowl. Notice the “electrical trades” badge on his lower right arm of this jacket./media/tinymce_upload/5328c2ed98652633de2507700d3985d4.jpg

The other two 443 Squadron Spitfires that I would like to build are 2I-N TZ132 “JUNE” likely flown by Sqd Ldr Cal Bricker and 2I-K “DORIS” s/n unknown flown by Flt Lt R.E. “Bob” Lowry. Bob flew Sabres in Korea. Cal formed up 439 Squadron in September 1951 on Sabre 2s and led them from Ottawa by air to North Luffenham in May 1952 joining 410 Sqn and 441 sqn there as No. 1 Wing RCAF where they were under control of 11 Group RAF.
