JJ73
Hiya Just noticed that the "Alan Pegler LNER, A3 Class, 4-6-2, 4472 ‘Flying Scotsman’ - Era 6" has a small light at the front of it - is it a working light or just for show???
2e0dtoeric
Which R number? Which manufacturer? There are lots of different Scottie models on the market.
walkingthedog
R3738 new this year Eric. Number would have helped wouldn’t it. It’s the version that went to the USA.
2e0dtoeric
Ah, the one with the giant headlight for the U.S. lines. 😛Next question will be - does the bell clang for every crossing? 😎
atom3624
I suppose it could be programmed in, with DCC?Failing that some form of 'trigger' device on the loco / crossing. I always disliked the 'oversized' US fittings on 'elegant' British locomotives visiting there, but it was a requirement, and it's sort-of quaint, certainly different and is also part of the locomotive's history. 81F
Looks like it also has the cowcatcher and second tender. Definately one for the "collector" as it would probably be out of place on a British based line. Also (assuming it is 00) to big for an american layout which would be HO. Mind you that hasn't stopped me from running an HO USTC 060T on my layout!
96RAF
Did the real thing have gold plated wheels and running gear or was the amount of money spent over there during the tour enough to have done so.Rob
walkingthedog
Not only gold plated running gear but a full sound decoder and real smoke and steam.

walkingthedog
Looks almost like the real thing HB, the figures are very realistic. 😉
Howbi
The hardest bit was making the bell clang to scale.... 😮.......
walkingthedog
I bet, you’d require a microclapper which, luckily, are available from Microclappers-R-Us.
Howbi
Are they anything to do with "going like the clappers"?........last time I did I got 3 points and paid £60......... 😆 😆 😆
walkingthedog
Ooh nasty. Rings a bell, happened to me as well.
Postman Prat
The last time I was a bit 'enthusiastic' it cost me near enough £100 and wasted an afternoon in a classroom. What really annoyed me was I was fully aware of the speed camera. Still, I didn't get any points....... 😳
JJ73
Sorry the R number is Item Code: R3738 - I thought it was obvevious b/c it is advertised on the front/home page of this site!!! walkingthedog
Not obvious at all. I had to look it up. When I tap on the Hornby App it goes straight to the forum, not the Hornby home page.
JJ73
@ P.P. walkingthedog
I guess the answer is if you don't want to waste an afternnon don’t speed Jj, or at least don’t get caught. I didn't get the offer of a course.
JJ73
@WTD - oh ok fair enough you got different settings then
walkingthedog
Yes I’m only interested in the forum. I do look at the rest of the site occasionally, mostly the shop and service sheets via the menu at the top of the forum.

Bulleidboy
This would be an interesting job for someone to make up the full Flying Scotsman US train. you would need five Hornby BR Gresley Full Brakes (R4531 - very rare) and a Hornby Devon Belle Observation Car - could look good if you rubbed the gold plating off. The coaches would need painting in brown and umber (cream).
walkingthedog
My son is about to take his second course. You can’t take another within 3 years. Right BB that is your challenge. You will of course need to build a USA layout for it. 😆
