Which decoder for 48DS Loco (Hornby R3706)?

I've purchased the DCC Ready version and need a DCC decoder for Hornby's 48DS bit I'm a little confused what to buy.

Rails of Sheffield advertise using the Hornby R7150 standard 6 pin decoder but Hornby's product page suggests this decoder doesn't fit and a nano one is required.

Hatton's suggest a Gaugemaster DCC93, which I purchased off them and tried but it doesn't work. I guess it might be a faulty decoder - I have no way of testing. I will try to send it back.

Has anyone installed a decoder successfully into one of these models and which decoder did you use?

Folk have put sound in the Whickham Trolley so DCCing a DS should be a walk in the park given it is factory DCC Ready. What does the maintenance sheet show, a four/six/eight pin socket or what. Hornby has a harness variant of each of these but so far no direct plugin decoders. If room for a direct plugin decoder then try Zimo or even LaisiDCC if you are broke. Personal opinion but I would steer clear of GM and Hattons cheapy decoders. Some folk have no problems with them but other folk have had no end of problems and even reported sending them back for refunds.

I have fitted the LaisDCC 6 pin direct decoder but it is too long so I had to remove metal in the cab bulkhead with the Dremel to get a fit.......it works very well but not really a conversion to recommend...........more sensible to buy a smaller decoder even if more costly........... 😆........HB

HB - Yep, I tried turning the decoder around. No joy but I know the loco works as it runs on a programming track with the original device in the decoder slot (sorry I don't what it's called).

RAF96 - the maintenance sheet doesn't help at all. It says contact your specialist dealer. But Hornby's website says use 6 pin nano decoder but doesn't offer any specific advice.
