L757
Hi looking for a nice 060 to replace a mainline jinty any views on the above and its suitablilty for dcc in the future Any opinions appreciated
Going Spare
I think this particular version does not have a decoder socket fitted so you will have to fit one or hard wire the decoder. R3122X was DCC-fitted.GS
Chrissaf
As G.S says.....Hattons describe the R3066 as 'DCC Compatible' but no socket../media/tinymce_upload/a22068c533a798f605eec80d695a2101.jpg.
walkingthedog
Strange I don't recall it having a Ringfield.
Going Spare
Hattons are probably correct regarding the DCC socket but it certainly does not have a Ringfield motor. There is room only for a Type 7.GS
NWR-Gordon-4
Those 0-6-0's have Type M Motors, not Ringfield Motors. Hatton's Model Railways has got that wrong. How old is this R3066 model now? Over 10 years? GNR-Gordon-4 (HF)
L757
Thanks for the replys the R3066 was the most recent update 2011. The dcc fitted goes back to 2007. I presumed it would be better to get the most recent?
Ruffnut Thorston
The 2721 class Pannier Tank loco has been moved to the Railroad brand, with much more recent models being made. Later models have more separate hand rails than the original models, including those on the top of the tanks, at the front. These Railroad models are rather good, the only thing is that the GWR lettering isn't shaded, and there is no Yellow circle route availability code. Options include replacement of the lettering with transfers, or hiding the lack of shading with a coat of weathering...the yellow circles are usually on transfer sheets too. The most simple way of going DCC with the 2721 loco is to source a DCC fitted Hornby "Jinty", as the chassis is the same. If required, the Jinty can then be sold on, using the original Pannier chassis. 😀
Ruffnut Thorston
We have a couple of the 2721 tank locos./media/tinymce_upload/1e5e7793bd4d719a1ff5a8e4beb626a9.jpgOne Railroad example has been modified to have a closed in cab, carried by some of these locos.../media/tinymce_upload/d403afa8cbb018636ba07e6fda4b3700.jpg/media/tinymce_upload/03ea4d74b6fe52c3555ccca6d22013a3.jpg http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/76497-sarahs-projects/&do=findComment&comment=2665493
JJ73
Here are photos of my (pannier) tank Engines!!! /media/tinymce_upload/e778f67e5bd5c1179cb448badead5339.JPG /media/tinymce_upload/c67f0cb5ae7fe894a56c51518c021682.JPG /media/tinymce_upload/991b9533eb965c9aa0209bd7952a149e.JPG It works well - I goit it a few years ago 2nd Hand from a Market Stall from Chesterfield Market - the graphics / signage on it are starting to go - that is why I've writon on a small piece of paper the No. of the loco on the back!!! Neither Loco has a proper Cab - you can see the end of the motor in the cab!!! Both Made by Hornby - the pannier tank is made in G. B. & the Tank Loco in China!!!
