So I was thinking how cool would it be if in a model kit, we got a poster of the box art, it would be very cool and add more to a box other than the model.

It's occasionally been done (or a company has included an art print of the box top). They don't seem to offer much in the way of extra sales based on how long the kits can hang around a shop for.

I wonder how much it would add to the price of a kit.

Well, you can get (not every issue) 2 off double sided A1 posters folded down to A4 with a £5 magazine, so I'd say "not much for posters" although true art prints might cost more.

Plus the cost of packing them. And don't say its not much, I worked in the industry and know about costings. Everyone seems to think these things cost nothing to put into operation when in fact they might add a pound or two to the RRP.

Airfix used to produce a calendar with a good number of large sized prints.   Are they planning one for this year I wonder?

No they're not Patrick, but Jez Brook has produced one for the Airfix Collector's Club.

A poster included with every kit, would certainly raise the RRP up, without a doubt. Keeping the price as low as possible is the best thing to do, so adding a poster just adds to the cost.

 

Not everyone will want a poster, so for those who buy the kits with the poster, meaning they have wasted additonal money buying something, that they don't want or need.

 

Perhpas the best thing is that if people want posters of the box artwork, then cut the front of the box out and stick it on the wall; That's if you don't mind destroying the box.

 

If Hornby Hobbies were to produce posters under the Airfix brand, it would probably be best to sell them seperately.
