LCDR
As a bit of a 'lark' how many locomotives can you come up with which have the same name. I have already listed a few in the "Captain Tom" post, but there are many more. A bit of a clue look at early GWR and LNWR locomotive names too. If you can give the name, the number, class and owning railway it will help verifying it. No prizes I am afraid. Here is a few more to start this off. WELLINGTON - GWR Castle 5075, LNWR Lady of the Lake 218, SR Schools / V 902LADY OF THE LAKE - GWR Saint 2902, LNWR Lady of the Lake 531, LNWR Experiment, 1989 / LMS 5468, ROBIN HOOD - GWR Saint 2980, BR Brittania 70038COEUR DE LION - GWR Saint 2986, BR Britannia 70007TALISMAN - GWR Saint 2989, LNWR / LMS Claughton 12 /5975, CAMELOT - GWR Bulldog 3343, LSWR 742, BR Class 5 73082.EARL OF MOUNT EDGECOMBE - GWR Duke of Cornwall 3200, GWR Castle 5043, PDSWR / LSWR 4 /757 See if you can find a few more

Ruffnut Thorston
Hi LC&DR... "Robin Hood" was also applied to a class 47. I can't remember the number, but it was a Hornby model in the 1980s... I'm presently reading "The First One Hundred Years", and it was mentioned in the chapters I read this morning! 😉

81F
Just looking at some of the names are we including later incarnations of the same name ie. an old name being transferred to a newer loco after the original was withdrawn like the Star/Britania names mentioned above. If this is the case may i put forward evening star, a GWR broad gauge 2-2-2 (1839–1871), GWR 4002 1907-1933 and of course 9F 92220 And don't get me started on GWR Counties (38XX vs 10XX classes)! Just to add I think the GWR may have emoved the name Prince of Wales from the VoR loco and it was BR that added it back By the way a good trick questionfor pub quizes is to ask in which decate did British Railstop operating their own stem locos. - most non enthusiasts say 1960s having never thought of the V of R! LCDR
I suppose to keep the thing manageable it ought to be names of locomotives which were in existence simultaneously with the same name. That will reduce the list considerably. So for examples Western Region Warships and Class 50s don't count. Similarly Britannias and Class 86 & 87 electrics. So please ignore many of my earlier suggestions which include various GWR 4-4-0s and LNWR classes. One good way to check it would be the series of Observer's Book of British Railway Locomotives. this has a very handy alphabetical list of names in the back.
