David Jones1707819951
I am looking to acquire some bases - round or rectangular - to mount my 1/72 models? Have any of you got any sources or ideas? I was thinking of using A5 photo frames and covering the glass with some scenic covering. Any thoughts/ideas welcome.
dogsbody
Have you tried looking in art supply & craft stores? The local one carries some wooden items that I think may be some kind of plaque thing for mounting on walls but they could probably be used as a base. I haven't tried it yet, but I've been thinking about it.Chris

Tour de Airfix
Something I've used recently are Photo Tiles. They are available via an App on your phone. Just provide the photo for the base, be it a runway, aircraft carrier or even an image as I have created below.
Kenneth ONeill
Or some genuinely local model shops will carry a range of different size and pre-varnished bases. I've had everything from circular bases only big enough for a single 54mm figure up to rectangular bases easily big enough for a 1/48 scale WW2 heavy bomber. Darryl-750448
Hello, an idea that you might think about is to use artist canvas panels. These come in a wide range of sizes, and with the canvas grain, ideal to paint in the "ground colour" of your choice, such as grass, sand etc in enamels or acrylic. In fact, they are a perfect base to add what ever ground suits your aircraft and it's theatre of operations. As I am presently building some Airfix 1/72 single engined fighters, I use a size of 7" X 5", and find that they are perfect. I get mine from The Range or Hobbycraft stores, but can be ordered online.Anyway, just an idea to help you out.Best wishes and happy modelling.Darryl
