Ratch
Must not forget the nose panels.Prime and pre-shade.The interior surfaces airbrushed with Vallejo Model Air 71062 Aluminium. The under surfaces airbrushed with Vallejo Model Air 71051 Barley Grey.Of course, I’ve forgotten the undercarriage doors and will have to return to this process for them. Ratch
I marked out the disruptive camouflage pattern in pencil and masked the straight demarcation lines between upper and lower areas.Vallejo Model Air 71048 Dark Sea Grey was sprayed freehand following the guide and filling in the spaces.I used Vallejo Model Air 71016 US Dark Green to fill in the disruptive scheme. Ratch
I touched up a couple of areas with a brush and then airbrushed Klear as a foundation for the transfers.

Ratch
Cheers Paul, I shall be returning to the Merlin.I brush painted the fuselage band 19mm wide. There is no need to go over the under sides as the invasion stripes will cover this area. I then brushed the yellow leading edges of the wings. Ratch
I then airbrushed another coat of Klear. When dry I set about the application of decals.
number1
Hi Ratch, could you tell me what you clean your airbrush with after using the Klear, your doing an excellent build of the Spit, following with interest, thanks
Ratch
I use plain water. I strip the airbrush right down, flush, wipe, brush clean everything, re-assemble and flush again with Vallejo Airbrush Cleaner. HTH
Ratch
Having left the decals to set overnight, I sliced around the edges of the machine gun compartment panels and lifted them out.I brushed invasion stripes using Humbrol White Enamel Wash applied with a signwriter’s brush freehand, 10mm wide under the wings and 8mm under the fuselage. 8mm and 10mm stripes of Revell Aqua Anthracite filled in the gaps. Ratch
I have started laying down the stencils, commencing with the under surfaces.
Ratch
I realise now, that in my haste to deal with the removeable hatches, I should have applied the stencils before the main markings. To compensate, I had to cut some stencils to size.
Ratch
Returning to the Merlin: As suggested by the instructions, I used the engine as a former while the glue on the frame set.
Ratch
I added the navigation light lenses, fixing them with PVA.The engine mounting fame is intricately moulded, requiring some dexterity to assemble.

Ratch
Now the Merlin goes in.I found it a very tight fit. I'm hoping there are no issues.
Ratch
The under chin panel sub-assembly fits in very snugly. Nothing glued here and it holds fast.I can decide later whether to fit it permanently. At first I struggled with the outer frames, then they slotted perfectly.Again, not yet glued, a few paint touch-ups first. Brian-1278419
I have just started building this kit, my first in around 50 years so it's a bit of a learning curve. The kit is absolutely fantastic but I may have stumbled on an error in the instructions. The flare stowage tray is on the sprue but the instructions omit to show it being fitted to the front of the pilot seat. The holes for the flares can be easily drilled out which adds to the realism.1940 BoB and earlier Spitfire Seats - Aircraft WWII - Britmodeller.comOverall, an excellent kit which will no doubt lead to me revisiting a few of the ones I tackled in the 1970's.kind regardsBrian Fraser
Ratch
I don't know the answer, so I'd ask the question, is this relevant to the specific aircraft offered in this kit? I read somewhere that later marks didn't have the flare tray, so it could be down to specific aircraft at a given time. The inclusion of it on the runner may indicate further variant(s) to be issued. Ratch
Back to the build. The outer frames were fitted. The fillets at the wing root are loose fitted. The air scoop was assembled and painted. Each fishtail exhaust is individually assembled, and they were then airbrushed with Ammo Mig One Shot Primer A.Mig 2023 Black. This was followed by an over all shot of Vallejo Model Air 71072 Gunmetal (Metallic). I selected areas to airbrush Alclad2 ACL-113 Jet Exhaust. Alclad2 ACL-121 Burnt Iron, Alclad2 ACL-111 Magnesium, Vallejo Model Air 71069 Rust (Metallic), and Vallejo Model Air 71080 Rust.
