SD45elect2000
In the beginning of the thread you stated that you were just an“average builder” the evidence that this not true is here.Randall

Hurricane Boy
Very nice job Ratch… as Randall has already said I think that you are selling yourself short by describing yourself as an average builder!.I can only wish to get that kind of result. Thanks again for going to all of the effort to show and describe your build It will undoubtedly save many of us from the pitfalls that await us. Cheers,Timps I think that your build could be carried in AMW but they don’t have enough pages in one issue to cover the detail that you have covered here. joy
Ratch
Thanks again chaps.Tim, I did the review of the HMS Illustrious for SMW some years back. That was quite a challenge because Airfix hadn't printed the instruction sheet (pre-production), so it was like a giant 3D puzzle.
Chris-1270741
Nice builld.I am about half way through mine. I love the kit. Amazing tooling. They have come a long ways from the 60's.I posted another thread but maybe you might be able to help me.I have a part No. 49 and I think it was sprue D49 but not 100% sure because I just dispose of the sprues as I finish cutting the parts off. I have searched the instructions several times and I must be blind but cannot find where this piece goes. Maybe you recall?????
Ratch
I had lots of bits left over. Not all are used. Some are alternative parts and some (I presume) are for further releases.
Ratch
Thanks Tim. The fit of the undercarriage is very tight. I cannot emphasise enough the need to clean mating surfaces. Any paint will prevent a good fit and misplace the parts. This, of course, goes for all the build, but I re-iterate here. Revisited
Ratch
The instructions offer alternative colours for the firewall, saying some aircraft were painted aluminium and others interior green, without definitive guidance. I have opted for cockpit green. The pre-prepared tail and rudder were fixed. Review

Ratch
On 04/12/2022 at 17:02, Ratch said: The guns going in. I did not fit the gun bay doors and omitted steps 95 and 96, but I did paint them. I then fitted the upper wing sections. The panels were cleaned up and bagged, marked Port & Starboard for painting later. As I wish to leave the engine exposed, I can skip steps 115 to 135. I can now resume assembly of the Rolls Royce Merlin engine. in another post Airports Ed asked about the ammo, so i thought to give this a boost.
