koo9
Does anyone have a Class 08 R2903XS BR model please? I asked hornby through email, if the white grab handles are a spare part and if so what is the part number. The reply was "look at the service sheets etc." However the one online doesn't include that particular model. If you have a copy please have a look at your paperwork, mine is lost, and tell me please. This is the model with sound fitted. Thanks
Graskie
I have just checked mine and it does, of course, come with such items attached. However, I can see no mention of any specific spares at all in the Operating and Maintenance Instructions, apart from saying "Spare parts packs can be ontained from Hornby Service Dealers who are also able to offer a repair service." Thank you, I will need to make my own and stop looking for them elswhere.
tsclass87
body spares are not generally produced. asked about replacement panto for hornby 87, only to be told that they are not being produced as spare parts. all other hornby electric locomotives have pantos available. there is nothing more annoying than breaking something on your model and not being able to replace it !!!!!! 81F
List a smokebox dart from one of my granges - spent ages fabricating one from handrail wire and part of a broken screw link coupling. Although it looks OK from a distance I would have liked a proper replacement.
rayarpino
Hi, Several specialist manufacturers produce smokebox door darts, some even providing the different types used by the "big four". Can't mention their names here, but just Google, you'll find them. Cheers and happy modelling.
The son of Triangman
Body spares and spare bodies aren't generally available anymore unlike the old Margate days, if it breaks then it's case of making a part or finding a donor. Topday's locos are throwaway items in general.

Rob That is why I either buy small cheap new locos or second hand, I enjoy this hobby on a small budget and will not pay for fancy new locos that cannot be fixed if the break down. walkingthedog
I hate the white plastic handrails fitted to locos. They must be a scale size of about 3 inches diameter. I always remove them and make my own from handrail wire.
Trax
Cheaper way, make them from staples.
Postman Prat
Staples are not normally round, handrails usually are!!!
Trax
I agree! Paper clips then, but then they are a bit thicker! Strands from sriped wire is good to make thin bits like hand rails and stuff.
Postman Prat
OK, you do it your way, WTD likes the results he gets doing it his way. As long as you both are happy with the outcome neither of you is wrong - you're both right!!
poliss
WTD doesn't want to do it cheap, he wants to do it right.

walkingthedog
Staples are even bigger than the plastic hand rails. They do make great lamp brackets though, not a whole staple of course, that would be silly. Hand rail wire is available for a couple of quid and you get about 10 feet of the stuff, enough to make rails for lots of locos plus those on brake vans etc. Yes, they are my spokesmen JLBA, sorry Dinkey, oh I mean Trax, they know more than me! Postman Prat
I have met the guy and we think in similar ways on many things. Therefore I'm in a better position than you to know his views on things like this!!! Trax said: I obviously dont know the guy! Haha!

walkingthedog
PP knows my views on things even before I do. We must have been twins separated at birth. I was the good looking one, he had the brain.
