  1. Revell do a decent 1/72 Corsair
  2. Purely subjective to the individual. Enamels are easier to work with in terms of they don't dry as quick, probably give you a better finish and are harder wearing but on the negative side they are less environmentally friendly, involve having to use white spirit and take a lot longer to dry so a much longer delay time between coats. Also manufacturers seem to be moving away from enamels now so the product range is getting smaller where as years ago it would have been the other way around.
  3. I think you need to post this on the Hornby forum Simon. This is the Airfix one
  4. Unfortunately I can't see that ever happening. The R&D costs against the sales potential probably don't stack up. I was surprised when they did the Hellcat. The Airfix new kit output is all very predictable these days and long gone is the diversity of models we saw in the sixties and seventies.
  5. Humbrol 164 is about the closest enamel satin match for it
  6. It suggests Humbrol 66 as the closest match in that range
  7. Download the Hobby Color Converter on Google Play. Pretty useful tool for matching colours
  8. They are all labelled as Starter sets on the packaging.
  9. That's what I use as well. Great stuff and unbelievable VFM.
  10. Or alternatively Airfix can say nothing, not answer emails and alienate their customers when I expect they are desperately in need of attracting a new fanbase as when my generation has gone they will have lost the vast majority of the nostalgia driven revenue that keeps the brand afloat.
  11. A phone call is probably fine when dealing with an individual problem relating to a faulty product but as this seems to be on a much larger scale (I would imagine far less than 10% of customers who have had issues are actually even going to post on this forum so we're probably talking high double or even triple numbers of disappointed people) I do think it needs to be addressed by a generic social media post or generic email to all subscribers.
  12. I don't expect a reply on here but I would expect them to answer disappointed customer emails as quickly as possible and post a generic apology on Twitter,Facebook or whatever social media platform they favour.
  13. They certainly need to acknowledge the fact they are aware of the situation. Fair enough the system malfunction was probably out of their control particularly as it occurred over a bank holiday weekend but it's how you deal with the aftermath that defines you and silence is not going to endear you to your customers.
  14. I had a Corgi FW190 from roughly the mid naughties and that had a Swastika on the tailplane. Obviously neither that nor AMW were sold in Europe unless they removed the decal from the tailplane as an export variant although I find that wholly unlikely within a limited production run.
  15. I have a Swastika decal set from Hannants myself as I like my models to be historically accurate but it does become problematic the moment you try to take that outside the realm of your home. Just over 3 years ago I visited the Nuremberg rally grounds and unless it's displayed for educational purposes such as a museum it's a very touchy subject in Germany and most likely any of the countries who suffered invasion by the Third Rei....ch. I've been into Military Modelling since the early Seventies but every now and then I have a little conscience battle with myself over the nature of what I'm actually building and what is was used for. Even this forum won't let me write Na zi or Rei....ch.
  16. I would think that the use of the Swastika would probably prevent it being used by AMW. The magazine certainly wouldn't be able to be sold in Germany (where unauthorised use carries a 3 year prison sentence) or any other country where it is illegal to display the sign. See Wikipedia bans on Na zi symbols
  17. I can remember having issues with the Hobby points just before Christmas when using PayPal. The discounted price would appear on the order page but as I went through to PayPal the deduction was missing and I was being charged full price. It was fine though when I used my bank card.

  19. Interesting article in the Mail about him particularly the photographs. Series 1 kits on sale for 19p. The Frog kits were 21p. It was such a great range in the seventies. So diverse with kits of Australian, Italian, French, Russian etc Aircraft even a Japanese Tank. Now its all practically kits of British subjects. I understand why but still a shame. At least we have the Vintage Classics.
  20. I'd have been all over that as a kid if Airfix had actually released it although at 1:144 scale that would have been one huge model. The AMT Star Trek models were 1:650.
  21. If it's acrylic paint careful use of a cocktail stick might do the trick
  22. Airfix ad from UK Marvel comic dated 16/01/1980
  23. I've noticed the Gen 2 Dropper Bottles are listed in the new Airfix catalogue and some of the online modelling stores have been listing for sale some of the new colours for quite awhile now but on the Humbrol website itself absolutely nothing. Just the original 70 odd Gen 1 paints.
