  1. EXCITING NEWS!!! We are pleased to confirm that we are working on a 'OO' gauge ready-to-run model of the Liverpool and Manchester #Railway 0-4-2 Lion, to complement the recently-introduced all-new 4mm scale model of Stephenson's #Rocket. (The model was originally due to be announced as part of our 2022 range). Built in 1838, #Lion was ordered from Todd, Kitson and Laird of Leeds for use on goods traffic. It was subsequently rebuilt in 1841 with a longer boiler and remained in traffic with the London and North Western Railway until 1857. It was later sold to Mersey Docks and Harbour Board, while in the late 1920s it was handed over to the Liverpool Engineering Society for safe keeping. In 1953, Lion went on to achieve celebrity status in the classic movie, The Titfield #Thunderbolt, and was renamed Thunderbolt for its starring role. Marketing and Product Development Director, Simon Kohler, explained: "After the success of #Rocket, Lion was most definitely on the list, especially given the public demand. We were intending to announce it later this year or early next..." Prices, delivery timescales and the specification of the new 'OO' gauge #model will be confirmed in due course.

  4. The GBRf Class 50s were released and sold out everywhere in December 2020. It was quite a popular release. Maybe Hornby will consider a second batch later on.
  5. - Manufacturers announce an annual range for models they intend on releasing each year. They don't make any promises on the delivery times. They give you an ETA. - During the year there's a number of things that can delay a model. Damaged tooling, tooling modifications, booking production slots, losing production slots, shifting factories and the list goes on and on and on. - There's a pandemic raging outside. Workers in Chinese factories have suffered a lot, spare a thought for them? - You've posted something worthless citing the August delivery date and making a basless claim that it will come next year. Even if it does, what's the issue?

  8. Bit biased this... But my favourite Hornby box artwork would be the first train set that I got. It was the R1005 Industrial Freight set that I got in 1999. However there is a reason as to why I like it, the mix of images depicting the train set and the industrial scenes made my 4 year old imagination run wild. Everytime I took out that simple oval and Track Pack A and set it up, my imagination created these vast industrial scenes with buildings, pipes and conveyors going all around the place. /media/tinymce_upload/a985422ffaf6b890030d4e239123bdd0.jpg Of course I used Lego bricks to replicate all that and make an engine shed and a station of sorts.
  9. On the 2nd of December 2020, the Advent Calendar prize was a Hornby 2021 Catalogue, seems like a good clue for what's coming in 2021? /media/tinymce_upload/5828b4193d4ae6f6a78b3414c609bc3f.jpg It seems to be this image.... from the Triang Hornby 1971 catalogue. /media/tinymce_upload/64d6b7f826623c3d84237173132dc053.jpg Do you think it is really a clue? Or is it just something to throw us off track? It will be 50 years since the 1971 Triang Hornby catalouge.

  16. Back to Indian Railway stuff..... Again many of you'll are aware of Tim's work. For those aren't, Tim was one of our very first clients. And it is all thanks to Tim and a couple of others who hung around from the very begining that helped me reach where I am today as a designer. Tim's work has been really popular amongst you chaps, so here's an update from him. Here's Tim's Indian Railway WDM2 (there's also a WDM1 in the background) /media/tinymce_upload/20296d369ec67b92d1ccbfd917af9fcd.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/4fc4413b259e9f7d3c6d2c9fa1f3f3eb.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/bc5f02509d52c332cf11f39f27b6a95d.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/489d6f3e16e3b07fa094a7307e7584c6.jpg
  17. 've recently been 3D printing a Class 86 detailing kit. The kit isn't perfect and I've identified issues like over-sized buffers and roof mounted air tanks etc. But here's what it looks like (note it's not 100% completed). This Hornby Class 86 detailing kit I'm working on includes:- - Roof mounted air tanks - Static pantograph - Underframe detail and compressor unit (not fitted to the model) - Buffers (not fitted to the model) - High intensity headlights /media/tinymce_upload/b35f4c7cd76fd0477e975d4fa797b614.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/3bbf0f07fd17939a4857fd9da35c77a9.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/3a10d32c023647308a2ef75471c97046.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/83d4424ac86db5beef87f573d8a67986.jpg
  18. Back to something British.... I've recently been 3D printing a Class 86 detailing kit. The kit isn't perfect and I've identified issues like over-sized buffers and roof mounted air tanks etc. But here's what it looks like (note it's not 100% completed). This Hornby Class 86 detailing kit I'm working on includes:- - Roof mounted air tanks - Static pantograph - Underframe detail and compressor unit (not fitted to the model) - Buffers (not fitted to the model) - High intensity headlights /media/tinymce_upload/80c3780864b3921ae4082a23657df2b8.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/69c73b3bf6f66ce68105af18ed81aa84.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/8af6218b4a15c629cefecbdbd53c3cc7.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/32775d2fe7c73997fb13c795c81d2627.jpg
  19. In early October I finally managed to receive my models (WDG4, BVZI and NDM6) back from Kaustav who had professionally weathered them for us. Here's a few images of our WDG4 and BVZI under natural light... /media/tinymce_upload/b44bb0e6a677874c30b2c6daf8ea5ceb.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/f8cb7bb5f1f2c51fae71ee3ab28eeb72.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/0cc694f1feacc06fd7276cfb5f9a61dd.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/5d277ac6237279040bbb7052a3f5ec7a.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/9c8d1be5f04a3e2eddaaf38d1fd0b9a2.jpg In saying all that whilst we were 100% happy with Kaustav's weathering, the underlying issue (which is what led to the weathering of it) was that whilst painting the varnish has reacted to the paint causing it to crack and give you a sort of drought effect. We feflt that it ruined an amazing weathering job. As a result the body shell is now being repainted as WDP4 #20037 (earlier it was WDG4 #12021). This is WDP4 #20037, what's special about this locomotive is the way the road number is painted on the side of the hood. The locomotive is based at Diesel Loco Shed, Krishnarajapuram (KJM, SWR) and as some of you'll may remember, I designed the livery for the EMD fleet based here. Their ALCo fleet has the road number painted on the side of the long hood in such a manner. As a result this was the only EMD (WDP4) to have such a number. /media/tinymce_upload/3da0c5b53d5737ce3452527209d903e9.jpg And here's the body shell in the process of being re-painted... /media/tinymce_upload/adc2ba0a12a423986d8219a316f99bf7.jpg
  20. Thanks to our good friend Kaustav Chatterjee, we've been bitten by the weathering bug... We're not professionals, so be nice. But we do enjoy weathering our models now. Here's our very own Indian Railways ZDM3A (NG diesel loco) and Indian Railways BRN (BG flat wagons) that we weathered... /media/tinymce_upload/50878b400125a6083d077e0d6224e491.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/b5b54429068bb5ccd493cfd7a4f441fe.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/fb6f725f91578878b12883ac7f663c86.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/27c832cb07eaa9bee7f3d88dfb1f513b.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/433d792a5cef276a971f1d398eadcd94.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/838783843b16567c016bd94dcadadf80.jpg
