  1. david_abramczyk This link may be of help. http://www.igg.org.uk/rail/7-fops/fo-milk.htm It gives an outline history of the traffic, and also has illustrations of the various types of tanks and wagons used. The United Dairies at Vauxhall had their creamery on the opposite side of the road from the station. The milk was pumped into the building via the pipework from the station above street level.
  2. When this same thing happened to my grandsons Thomas the Tank Engine, we contacted Hornby and explained the problem. They came back with a Returns Number and we posted it off to them. A few days later the loco was returned, fixed and running normally, and at no cost other than postage. Try this avenue if you don't have the right tools, etc.
  3. R3413 BR 4-6-0 '30831' Maunsell S15 Class - Late BR A beautiful looking loco at a good price as well !!. Due to arrive in the next day or so, (I hope.). 😎
  4. Just a quick word of warning regarding using the loft. Please check the sizes of the joists. In some modern day constructions they are quite small and are only sufficient to hold the plasterboard ceiling up. Equally, as previously mentioned, talk to your local Council Building Control department to ascertain any issues/requirements that may be necessay.
  5. Chrissaf I have found your tutorial really easy to follow and to learn from. My initial attempts were to say the least dreadful. However, since I printed off your tutorial and now follow it each time I attempt to do a little bit of soldering, I find that it is becoming better each time. So thank you for your guidance on this subject, it is a great help. 😀
  6. ATOM 3625 Unfortunately I am off today to go to work, which is out of the UK, so I will do this when I return in about 3 weeks time. But thanks to everyone who have offered advice that I will follow up on my return. Thank you all.
  7. I have just found this metal rot/fatigue in one of my loco's ! I have a couple of the Hornby Patriot class loco's that bI purchased from Hornby when they were released. They have never been run as they are on display in my cabinet. Today I picked up Patriot Class R2629 "Kings Royal Rifle Corps" to see about putting a decoder inside. The chassis came away easily, but as I tried to put it back together the front of the chassis just broke away as it touched the body. No pressure from me. So now have a useless loco chassis. Hopefully I can obtain a replacement somewhere and have this loco actually running at some point. Very annoyed and frustrated about this. ☚ī¸
  8. This topic made me laugh ! Many years ago I was the officer responsible for the introduction of new equipment into the Fire Service that I served in. On my desk I had a boroscope and an endoscope for evaluation. Another officer, senior to me, decided he would have a go with them to see how they worked, so took them away. A few moments later a shout from the said senior officer made a few of us look into his office. Coming out of his desk draw was smoke and charred paper ! The end of the equipment had heated up when he pushed it iinto the closed draw and had set light to some of his paperwork !! 😀 He never took any more equipment off my desk after that. 😎
  9. PP "the only other branch was from Alton to Basingstoke. This closed, I believe, in the 1930s. This line was used for filming the movie "Ghost Train" and this included a derailment. Private Godfrey, from Dad's Army, was involved in this." The Basingstoke to Alton was a light railway that was opened in about 1900. It was dug up during the 1st World War andshipped out to France. Upon it's return it was eventually relaid in the 1920's. The station at Cliddesdon, near Basingstoke was indeed used in the film with Will Hay, (Think this was "Oh Mr Porter" and the name of the station was Buggleskelly.!) The platform is still to be seen near the village pond. The collision took place at the crossing at Lasham for another film. The line closed completely in the 1930's. There is a small section of the original track in the centre of Viables roundabout near to Brighton Hill in Basingstoke.
  10. Tony57 Only a few more weeks to wait before the Flying Scotsman arrives ! I believe it is February 14th. Have a great day Joe H 😎
  11. When you travel on theWatercress Line, you will be able to see one of the last working Watercress Beds in Hampshire. These were how the line received it's name. Have fun exploring the line, it's a great place. Joe
  12. Similar to Yelrow, here in south east Spain, the Correos decided that they will not deliver to our area. We all have to drive up to the town to collect anything from the office. This includes businesses. However, strangely, if it is a communication from a Government department, this gets delivered !!
  13. Would it not be a simple idea for manufacturers to add a slip of paper, similar to the servicing details one gets with a new loco, showing how to disassemble a coach safely to allow the fitting of light strips, passengers etc. Or perhaps it could be shown on their website, along with any tools that may be needed. 14. Having watched this new series on YouTube, I must say that I was left non-plussed ! I think Hornby Hobbies need to employ a more professional company to make & present these programmes. With poor sound, mis-pronunciation of model names, talking up models that were only a picture, and Simon Koler sitting there pointing at some green coaches, (Which could have been any model.), no close ups of the elements that were being highlighted. How about adding some information about the progress being made in the move back to Margate ? Overall, I think this was a good effort, but needs more zip and polish to become the information vehicle that the company obviously wants it to become.
  15. WTD "I think one Bachmann loco is 3 years late" Hopefully we will not have to wait that long ! 😉
  16. Hi All Has anyone received the above loco yet that has been on pre-order since March 2018 ? It was supposed to be delivered in January, but has still not arrived ! Wonderingif it will ever be delivered !!
