  1. You could ask for a quote from this company who can do continuous printing in full colour. www.ncrprinting.co.uk I have no connection with the company in any way. Good Luck JoeH
  2. Like BB I have never heard of the"Bournemouth Limited" So looked it up. Having just read the following article: The Bournemouth Limited - Railway Wonders of the World I found it really interesting. In Hugh Longworth's book "British Railways Pre-Nationolisation Coaching Stock Vol 2" it shows the make up of the sets mentioned by the OP but unfortunately not the colour schemes. It shows the designer for these original LBSCR coaches was Douglas Marsh. It maybe that to replicate these coaches exactly in model form may require them to be made either from kits or scratch-built. It will be interesting to see if LC&DR can show some more interesting details about this train. But another very interesting fact about railway history. Brilliant. sunglasses Moderator message: Hyperlink made clickable.
  3. Good Morning Thank you for the replies to my question. I take on board the advice and comments and will be on the hunt for some real coal. I will also be digging out my SAFETY GLASSES as recommended by Buz nerd_face Thank you to all who replied Joe H
  4. Good Evening All I am looking to hopefully enhance my loco's by adding real coal to the various bunkers and tenders. However, is it a good idea to use real coal suitably crushed, or something else such as ballast that is then coloured, or sieved gravel suitably coloured ? Any ideas would be gratefully received. sunglasses Joe H
  5. I think it would be a nice idea if Hornby included a simple instruction sheet in each coach box to show how each of the different types of coach can be dismantled, hopefully without damaging the clips, etc. Like some others on here, I am guessing, I have managed to break off one of the clips on a coach after trying to be as careful as possible. sunglasses
  6. Just to clarify. The loco is part of the Southern Suburban (R2815) set that came out a number of years ago. (2006 I believe??) The loco is the Schools Class "Hayleybury" in black livery. Whilst I was removing the two "L" shaped brackets, that held the loco securely in the poly tray, One of them needed a bit of umph to get it off. At that point is where I completely dislodged the front bogie. I salvaged all the bits that came off but was unable to put it back together satisfactorily. Hence my request to Hornby to repair the loco for me. Regardless as to how they repaired it, I am so grateful to them. Excellent service, thank you Hornby. 😎 Joe H
  7. Recently, through my own fault, I broke the front bogie off from one of my Schools Class loco's as I was removing it from it's set box. I contacted Hornby asking about a repair. Having been asked to send it in for inspection in early January, I received it back this morning. All fully repaired, and completed, free-of-charge. Thank you Hornby Repair Centre from a very grateful man. 😀 Excellent service. Joe H
  8. Hi Duke It was interesting to read recently thatBasingstoke & Deane Borough Council are seeking to re-open Oakley Station ! I am sure Bulleid Boy will know more than me, but it would seem a strong contender for re-opening ! Please keep the photo's coming as I find your modified layout absolutely fascinating Thank You JoeH
  9. I recently had a sort through my collection and thinned out a number of items that were no longer required. This included a number of loco's and wagons all in mint condition and still in their boxes. I sent the list through to the "big boys up north" and a while later received their offer. Both offered roughly the same, about £65 for the lot. My list included 5 loco's, one of which was the H&P 040 Pecket in mint condition. Plus various wagons. I decided to place then on EBay and the few items that have been sold, after fees and postage cost are taken out, leaves me a couple of hundred pounds in credit.Plus i still have a few items left to sell. Will I bother asking companies to buy my items again ? Probably not ! Roll on 2021 and hopefully the return of the Model Railway shows and Fairs. 😆 😎
  10. Just bought this from Hornby. Hornby R4816A SR Maunsell Kitchen/Dining 1st Class Used my 10% off voucher from Cap't Tom Loco, so pleased with this one. Thank you Hornby and a Merry Christmas to all.
  11. Hi Everyone My question is, "Would it be possible to wire a decoder with no plug onto a blank plug, from a DCC ready locomotive, and it will work ?" I have a few blank plugs from previous conversions and I have a decoder that has no plug. I have a wiring guide as to which coloured wire goes onto which pin, but if I can solder this together, will it work ? Has anyone successfully achieved this ? Thank you in advance JoeH
  12. Hi There I have one of these and I have run 0 4 0, 0 6 0 locos on the rollers with no problems. Also use it to test run both DC and DCC fitted loco's as well. Mine is Hornby R8211. Hope this helps. 😎
  13. Duke Good point about the shunter at Fawley. Forgive my ignorance about the Oil train !! We just used to get a phone call from BR saying that the "Oil Train" was in the sidings. 😎
  14. Duke In the middle 70's one of the ESSO Oil trains had to pull into the sidings at Micheldever as two of the tankers had sprung leaks. A vast amount of oil had leaked out in the sidings causing fears of fire & explosion. A chap named Richard Hoyle from the Hampshire Fire Brigade waded through the oil and managed to stem the leaks from the tankers thereby saving much of the load and reducing the ongiong risk of fire or explosion. Many of these trains used to park up in the sidings at Basingstoke overnight. We used to get notifications from BR when this occured. Joe H
  15. I lived and worked in Basingstoke for about 10 years in the 1970's. I remember organising an exercise for the Fire Service and Ambulance Service in the sidings above the allotments outside the station at Basingstoke. Carriages were brought in and parked up that had been "Crushed & damaged" by the engineers department, along with drill dummies trapped in various locations waiting to be rescued / retrieved. A great deal of information and learning was achieved by many of those who attended. Also, two men I worked with, their father was a driver at the Basingstoke shed. I now spend a fair amount of time living between the UK and Spain. My Spanish house is in the bottom end of Murcia Region and is about a 6 - 7 hour drive away. But I am hopeful that when the "State of Alarm" is over I may be able to arrange the journey and see this wonderful layout. So keep up the fantastic work that you are doing Duke, as I hope to see you and the layout sometime in the not too distant future. 😎
  16. Thank you to both of you for the assistance. Howbinman: I tried wrapping the wires around as much as I could but there was never enough room to get the body shell to locate properly. 5Dublo2: Thanks to your suggestion, I have managed to get the decoder fitted and everything is working fine. I am surprised that there is so much difficulty in trying to fit a decoder into this new model !! But all has ended well. Thank you again for your assistance. 😆
  17. Hi All I have the Wainwright H Class loco to which I am trying to fit a decoder, (No sound.). I have tried one from Hornby and another from Gaugemaster. The loco works well with both decoders but I am finding it impossible to refit the body to the chassis. Does anyone know of a slim line decoder, that does not have a harness attached, that would be suitable ? I have searched around but all the ones I find have the harness, which is what is causing the problem. I would be grateful for any information. Thank You
  18. Mine arrived today. I had received an email from Hornby informing me that it was out for delivery with DPD. I then received an email from DPD a while later letting me know that it would be delivered on Tuesday, 11th. On the Tuesday morning I received another email from DPD letting me know that my parcel would be delivered between 1pm and 2pm. At 1.35pm there was a knock on the door and the parcel was handed over. I am really pleased with my purchase. I am not a modern traction enthusiast, but this will stay within my collection. Thank you Hornby, I for one am very pleased and impressed with your donations to the NHS Charity. 😆 Thank you
  19. UPDATE: Thank you for the suggestions & the warning ref acetone. I eventually rubbed the area with Nail Varnish Remover, then using a scalpel, very gently scraped away at the glue. Then washed the body shell in warm soapy water to remove any traces of the acetone. I have managed to clean off all of the cement and thebody shell is ready to receive it's first coat of paint. Thanks again 😎

  21. I am about to start renovating an 80's era Class 37 loco. When I removed the old nameplates, these appear to have been stuck on using polystyrene cement, or such other strong glue. I have tried to remove the remnants using nail polish remover, but too no great effect. I am hesitant to use somethingstronger in case it damages the body of the loco. Does anyone have any suggestions about how these can be removed without causing damage ? Thank you all in advance. 😎 Joe H
  22. I am really enjoying this post. Having lived & worked in the Basingstoke area, before moving to Mortimer just up the GWR line, around some of the time that this project covers, I have been enthralled by the whole thing. The detail that is being built into this layout is truly outstanding. I used to travel into Reading from Basingstoke on many occassions andwas always intrigued by the siding that went into the Central Ammunition Depot at Bramley. I have actually been inside this depot and seen the extent of their internal railway system. All gone now though. I have also learn't something as well in thatt I never knew that Oakley had a station ! Terrific. I do remember one of the buildings adjacent to Basingstoke station. This was Pooles Furniture Warehouse. Access from the ground floor as normal. Or access from the station that took you straight to the top floor. (Not for members of the public though.). I also spend a lot of time in Spain, but unfortunately not near to where this layout is being housed. However, I may just drive the 5 hours from home to see it all ! You never know 😉
  23. A while ago I wanted to buy/obtain one of the train sets that I received when I was a young lad. I looked through EBay and then just a general search through Google and I came across a chap called Lawrence Moger who had exactly the one I wanted. He has a range of older sets available. Could be worth giving him a try. I will try to find his details and post them here later.
  24. HMQ was born in 1926. 2006 would have been HMQ's 80th Birthday year.
  25. Not a great lover of modern traction, but I have ordered this as a keepsake about a truly inspiring man. Honory titles! Many people will not worry about that, I'm sure he will always be remembered as Captain Tom ! In the words of the poet, "Old soldiers never die" Well done to the rail companies and to Hornby for making his memory even better.
