  1. @WTD Have you read over what you just posted? Are the United Kingdom and England the same thing? I don't quite believe so.........Do you think so? And at what point did I intimate that Hornby was a rubbish company? Accuracy on a corporate website should be a given. Not an option. And a pleasant day to you to.
  2. @WTD The UK being referred to as England is not understandable, its an act of uneducated (stupid) people as I stated. With regards to knocking Hornby, I don't think its too much to ask that corporate literature is accurate. No more so than expecting accuracy in a model. Moaning about incompetence doesn't exclude brand engagement. A significant part of my collection is from Hornby Hobbies and that is unlikely to change anytime soon. No, I have not joined the club - as stated in my post above, I feel it is too expensive and the Club models can be bought on ebay. My comments on this thread were intended to compliment the OPs comments regarding the Hornby club being available to modellers outwith the UK. @RAF96 Is the above post referring to MasterGamer575838's OP regarding the geographical availability of the Hornby Club, or my contention that the UK is not England? I would agree that the OP should contact Hornby directly regarding the club, I, on the other hand realised a long time ago that the world is not smart enough.................. 😆
  3. The website being managed from Spain or the UK is irrelevant as Hornby Hobbies is ultimately responsible for the accuracy and performance of its various business units. Most of the world referring to the UK as England doesn't make it right - It just means the most of world is stupid.
  4. @WTD Probably, but the website says England, not the United Kingdom or Great Britain. That means the club is either only available to people living in England or the website has been created by simpletons who think that 'England' means all of the UK. It doesn't really surprise me - Spanish forums, magazines and books routinely refer to the 141F 2101-25 as English when they were produced by North British. However, I would expect Hornby to be slightly more professional regarding their associate websites.
  5. @MasterGamer575838 For years I have wanted to join Club Electrotren - one of Hornby's International brands, but this was only available to those living in Spain or Portugal. Its very similar to the Hornby Club but with a coach or pair of wagons replacing the 0-4-0. http://www.clubelectrotren.com/ Last year it was relaunched and is available to customers in a range of countries including England - but not Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland..............the price being €80/year against €52 for Spain. I'll get the wagon from ebay if I want it. I don't need to pay silly prices. I think its a missed opportunity from Hornby to not try and maximise sales and customer engagement across all their brands.
  6. I've read countless post regarding the R8206 and the capacitor and ignored them completely................ I have been using the track from a Thomas starter set I bought of my son (who still shows no interest) as a test track connected to a Multimaus and one of my locos - a decent Roco effort running a Lenz Gold - would often stop and refuse to do anything for a while..............all others seemed fine A few months ago I had a real Doh! moment and popped out the capacitor realising I was making the same mistake as countless others............ The difference in performance is outstanding.
  7. @Friendly Fryer Not quite a Lord Nelson and CIWL, but a Jubilee and 1928 Rhinegold coach.... /media/tinymce_upload/67fc87aa833a4cc3286c8bcc74e52523.JPG This will give you some idea of what your proposed combination will look like before you buy anything. The larger load gauge of the European railway stock goes some way towards mitigating the scale difference. As the other guys said, its your choice.
  8. @WTD Thanks for the reassurance.............
  9. I seem to remember - but never having - a set of plastic track parts, probably Hornby, in red and - I'm guessing - scaled at about 1/600. These would be clipped together to to allow layout planning. Does anyone else remember these? Or am I imagining it...........
  10. Hi Slowshunter, I'm a great great of Mehano and run several successfully alongside Electrotren (Hornby) locomotives as well as numerous other brands. As has been mentioned above, Mehano are not particularly active in their own right at the moment and appear to be supplying commissions for a number of operations. Lemke offer a number of locomotives and wagons for the German market and Mabar have recently commissioned a rerun of the Renfe 333.3 in various liveries and articulated container wagons for the Spanish market. There may be others. These are of models that were in the Mehano Prestige range and compare fairly to other suppliers. I have five models of three types and am very satisfied. The details is not quite as good as what I have seen from Roco or Electrotren models from the same time period, but they run great and have a 'chunkiness' to them. The 333.3 (of which the UK Class 67 is a descendent) weighs in at 837g with chip and will pull anything I ask of it, and as it is laid out mechanically as an A1A-A1A rather than a Co-Co it will happily deal with Roco R2 which are tighter than Hornby R1! The 252 is a more accurate model than the Electrotren (former Lima) offering and the G1700 a gem. All are DCC ready and I have chipped them all using Lenz silver decoders. /media/tinymce_upload/460638a9d4e426650373680a4e394b49.jpg Ebay would be the easiest source for these locomotives - 4 of mine came from Ebay.es, and once chipped they should be not problem with the Select and Hornby track. I think all the Prestige models have Nem coupling pockets and either 8 or 21 pin decoder sockets. Let us know what you get and how you get on.
  11. @ Chrissaf No8 is wrong - its a Fleischmann close coupler. Shown are: 1. Roco universal, 2. Hornby OO narrow type 3. Kadee 17 4. Hornby European standard type 5. Roco fixed bar for suburban coaches 6. Hornby Roco clone 7. Hornby Roco clone without uncoupling splitter - supplied as such, not modified, but I can't think why..... 8. Fleischmann Close coupler. 9. Fleischmann standard coupler. 10. Roco close coupler So 2,4,6 & 7
  12. @Urbarm8 No3 is not a Hornby coupler (or do they have clones...) However, it may be fitted to any Hornby model with an NEM pocket and if you just had second hand ones delivered they might have one of these............. Apologies on the resolution of the photo if anyone is having trouble zooming in....
  13. @Chrissaf 3 out of 4 - not bad.............
  14. Hopefully Debe45 has solved the coupler problem by now, but I feel that I should point out there is no such thing as an NEM coupler - only a NEM 362 coupler pocket into which a selection of couplers can easily be exchanged. Some of which are pictured below...... /media/tinymce_upload/f853693c6dab608a9f84cdf04f379ec9.jpg For extra points - 4 of the above couplers are supplied by Hornby Hobbies for their model trains. Can you all guess which???? For the record, I'll go with Ericm0hff (and his evil grin) and go for Kadees or Roco close...............
  15. Hi Jimbo, I seem to remember the Lima Warship had plastic pegs - two per side that locked the base to the body. These break off really easily and for most of the time I had one the body was loose - until araldite saved the day......
  16. Hi Paul, Have a look at these - shown as available - would they do what you need?? https://www.acmodelsspares.co.uk/product/x9717-hornby-spare/ https://www.acmodelsspares.co.uk/product/x9708-hornby-spare/ Best of luck.
  17. Just replaced split gears on an Electrotren 594 - a lovely model but the drive system is over stressed as a result of keeping the motor (and any signs of running gear) below window height. /media/tinymce_upload/4a092481623ab4b859ca1e0b58c6950e.jpg A quite fiddly part that will replace the plastic original. Its slightly noisier than before, as its now brass on brass rather than a plastic gear onto a worm screw. It does move on its own though - a success! /media/tinymce_upload/5c7b71ab41102a4f6381f6d4fd8921f5.jpg With a bit of luck I won't have to do that again...........................
  18. Just arrived from ebay.es - Mehano Renfe 333.313.5...............looks much like a Class 67 and the real ones were being produced along the 67s in Valencia in 2000. Runs great and goes well alongside the other couple I have.
  19. HO Mehano Comsa Mak/Vossloh G1700.....now chipped, very nice.
  20. Hi John, I have been using Kadees for the last twenty years initially on US outline stock and then onto an assortment of European outline stock. Once the trip pins have been adjusted (if necessary) I have experienced very few problems in their use. I do tend to use Kadees on locomotives and at the end of rakes. All my US wagons have Kadees and my European stock has mostly Roco close couplers between wagons and coaches with a Kadee fitted wagon at the end of the train. This works for me. I would suggest trying the Roco close couplers between coaches if you haven’t already provided the stock has an extending mount not just the NEM pocket.
  21. I'm coming up on 48, but in reply to Yelrow's comment on the 18th regarding price and models being out of reach I would disagree. At age of ten I was capable of saving a few weeks pocket money and getting a Mainline wagon from Railroad Models in Salisbury or the toy shop in the centre of Devizes. It seemed that every toy shop had some trains. My son is coming up to ten now and could certainly 'afford' a Hornby wagon but there are no local shops that stock any (In my part of Perthshire). Apart from that, all his friends at school want to play on a PS4..........so thats what he has...and, no, I don't play it at night when he's gone to sleep, like my Dad did with my Scalextric.
