Dimensions and Clearances for the TT:120 scale
Martin-369195 replied to Invicta's topic in Hornby TT:120
@Fishmanoz - Thanks. Silly mistake It must be my cheap callipers then, because there's no way I can get to 11.98. It's good to confirm my understanding that the measurement is between the rails, so thanks for that. -
Dimensions and Clearances for the TT:120 scale
Martin-369195 replied to Invicta's topic in Hornby TT:120
@Invicta - Thanks for the 3D gauge. My son printed it on his printer and I got it in my grubby hands tis afternoon. I'm hoping you guys can help clear up my confusion and/or misunderstanding. According to the MOROP Area Clearances on Straight Track (link above), and G on the diagram says 12mm for TT:120 and the 3D gauge is correct. What's confused me is that the gauge doesn't fit between the rails on an ordinary piece of straight Hornby track. The distance between the rails appears to be 11.9mm, not 12mm. The problem is ..., no, the question is, is it 12mm between the rails, or 12mm between the centre of the rails? The latter would make sense as the rail is 1mm wide so 12mm - 2x0.5mm = 11.9mm. Thanks, Martin -
@DuTTchy - Could you elaborate on the Kadee magnet. Where did you get it from and why cut it in half? Cheers, Martin

Can anyone with a longer history of purchasing from Hornby confirm whether these offers are a regular thing?

1. Anything with HM7000 and sound. [My blue 08 was the exception and, after modification by TWW, makes me grin like a big kid whenever I play.] 2. Within financial reason. [I'm struggling with this rule, to be honest - especially when I get 15% off emails from Hornby.]

Worked for me this morning at 7am. Perhaps the server is overloaded?

Thinking of trying again with The Scotsman
Martin-369195 replied to dBerriff's topic in Hornby TT:120
@John208 Interesting. I've not had any issues with HM7000, either configuring or running. Well, except for the curious case of the HST decoders would only work one at a time after the first run. Again the DCC forum helped me sort that out. I learned a lot about the HM7000 app that day. Are you using the Hornby track? I ask because I did have problems when I had the track on the dining room table. It turned out my dining room table and the the track wasn't flat. I've never looked back after pinning to a proper baseboard and making sure the baseboard was level. @BritInVanCA I haven't cleaned my six month old track (yet) and have not experienced the problems you have. Odd. -
I used the medium coupling from the WHWW starter set on my power and dummy car which worked on the points and R2 curves. I haven't got any coaches yet, however.

Thinking of trying again with The Scotsman
Martin-369195 replied to dBerriff's topic in Hornby TT:120
Welcome back, @dBerriff. I'm new to the hobby, just six months in, and, like you, the TT:120 scale appealed due to space constraints. I'm HM7000 only as I have no experience with DCC. My experience has been mixed. My Blink Bonny worked for 10 seconds and had to be returned due to a faulty decoder. The warped track needed adjustment. The Pullman coaches drag, as does the Mobil tanker. The HST cars don't couple properly. I'm waiting for my Flying Scotsmen to be repaired and returned. There was a point where I considered returning the lot and try something different. But... I've built my first baseboard - my first attempt ever at woodworking. I've now acquired boxes of tools and other modelling bits (which is essential for every railway modeller apparently). The Class 08, modified by This Way Works with the sound chip and stay-alive is a delight! Hornby's customer and technical support teams are exemplary and as others have pointed out, Hornby are refining their models based on feedback. The Hornby forum members are a great bunch - very helpful and informative. I really enjoy playing running my layout as it grows. Well, apart from the fact it isn't big enough, so I'll have to build another one . So I'm sticking with TT:120 as I think it has a great future. Martin -
Portable train set layout 5ft x 2ft 6in - critique please

What radius curves are you using? -
@Irishmail I returned the three Pullman coaches in my Scotsman set as I was concerned about invalidating the warranty. However, all they did was oil the axles - no modifications were made to the underframes. They still run poorly - Blink Bonny only just manages to drag them around.

Thanks @Rallymatt. I revisited Peachy's video(s) - I was sure the Hunt couplers had a corresponding magnet under the track, but obviously I was wrong. I'll press on with my experiments with neodymium magnets which are working with the Dapol couplers.
-
At the Q&A session there was mention that there's a TT:120 magnetic couplers project in the works. Someone has posted that the OO versions are really good. Can anyone confirm if the OO version has magnets that go between the sleepers? I didn't imagine it, did I? Or has my brain got befuddled because I've been playing with neodymium magnets for the last few weeks! Martin

@david_watts1 - You ordered the 24 catalogue from the Hornby store?

post mortems! And Sam's Trains will say TT:120 is DOOMED... And Locomotion Motion will announce Hornby is merging with another random company... Oh wait ... he's already done that! Martin -
I had a similar problem coupling the HST power and dummy car but I replaced them with hunt magnetic couplings...
-
You did. I just didn't understand the difference as I'm still getting familiar with the app. Thanks for your perseverance. Martin

I've got them both working! The issue with the power car was a bug in the Android app. If I tried to load the profile from Locomotive Settings and choosing the profile then Install Locomotive Profile Import Running Profile Import Function Map I can only select Import Function Map. However, if I go to Settings > Profile, choose the profile, then the locomotive then all three options are available Install Locomotive Profile Import Running Profile Import Function Map I installed the Locomotive profile, linked the dummy car and presto! And yes, @96RAF it's a known bug . I found it the hard way! According to HM Customer Care it'll be fixed next week. Thanks for your help everyone, Martin

Thanks @PeterM67, Just to add I put both cars on my layout before linking both devices and that worked without any issues. My problems started the following morning... Martin

Ahh! That's what I'd seen. The single pole, double throw bit meant I assumed it was electrical only. There are loads on Amazon. The tube looks to be 1mm or so. I'll go shopping after work.
