Yes I'm back with an Airfix build and not something new either..

It's been in my stash for a while, so I got it down from the shelf and made a start..

Oops wrong photo  😉

That's better  😎

I've made a start this evening and have got the hull together, will need a small amount of filller but for 41 year old tooling - it's pretty good..

Hi James

Will be following this build closely as I have one I've been threatening to build for sometime, but was very undecided as to which version to build. I've even toyed with getting a second one thar's been loitering in the corner of the bottom shelf at my LMS. Maybe next year??

I built the "E"? "S" Boat two years ago and was very inpressed with the kit (except the hull / deck fit.) and now I'm  also looking for a re-release of the Vosper.

Remember we do this for fun                                  John the Pom

Yes James it's a good kit for such an old tooling, I've done a couple over the decades and have 1 on display on my shelves that I must have done about 15 years ago. I have been tempted to do another 1 since I think my skills have improved since my last effort! I have the Vosper MTB and E-Boat in my stash from the later days of Humbrol in the red and green boxing.

I shall follow your build with interest and no doubt you will inspire me ...........

More progress:

I found gluing the deck on, before adding any detail to it got near perfect fit to the hull.

Adding more detail to the deck, while the minor filling cures.

Adding the bits to the underside..

More detail added to the deck and ready for an undercoat.

Do let me know what paints you use.  My kit gives the colours in discontinued Airfix paints.

Probably a 1980 'pressing' that I look forward to completing, when I find a picture of a southern North Sea based boat.

I haven't used Humbrol Paints on mine, I've used Vallejo Model Air instead (as you'll see below):

19 Gloss Red - 71.003 Red (RLM23)

24 Trainer Yellow - 71.078 Yellow (RLM02)

26 Khaki - 71.290 US Earth Brown

27 Sea Grey - 71.110 Dark Grey

33 Black - 71.052 Anthracite Grey

34 White - 71.279 Insignia White

53 Gunmetal - 71.072 Gun Grey

54 Brass - 71.066 Gold

70 Brick Red - 71.080 Rust

Anyhow back to the build, paint and decals...

I decided to get as much added, as I dare before she went into paint..

/media/tinymce_upload/711cd1be10a33de5dcce10d4b6dd352c.jpg

Oh and a large cameo...

/media/tinymce_upload/ed50362dd914009ff10fba0cb49607c5.jpg

I left the Launch alone for a bit while I got on with the Corvette, but just before Christmas the Launch went into paint, I gave it an undercoat of Nato Black (71.251), prior to spraying the hull Anthracite Grey. It was then masked to spray the keel and deck.

/media/tinymce_upload/e8621f51985891d46b8266d08e976676.jpg

Fresh from painting.

/media/tinymce_upload/4a59793d1f69ba16fbdc95c06b889a76.jpg

Main painting done, wheel house glued in place, holes drilled for rigging and touched up.

/media/tinymce_upload/fe52465a7159c1deed82d25b33ffd0c6.jpg

After a couple of coats of gloss clear (Tamiya), I applied the decals this afternoon.

/media/tinymce_upload/8406ec396824e42a8d34f4cd752a6693.jpg

Once these have dried for a couple of days, I'll give the launch a few coats of Matt Clear, before carrying on with assembly.

Rigging done - as much as I dare anyhow, just a oil wash and weathering to do and then RAF Ensign can be raised.
