Forum-1211528
Hornby should do a new London Transport Pannier Tank Loco as it was 1977 since it was last done and a new one would be nice as L10 has operated on various preserved lines so lets have a new one OK! Fazy
Why as Bachmann have already done one within the last few years with a much better model than what Hornby currently has.
Ruffnut Thorston
Hornby’s 57XX (Later Cab 8750 version) tool was modified to be used as Duck in the Thomas Range.Bachmann has indeed made a few LT pannier models, though I believe that the LT cab roof modifications were not carried out on the models. wink
Going Spare
Before considering bodywork, an up-to-date 0-6-0 chassis is long overdue but for Panniers, Jintys, etc. Hornby have been overtaken by other manufacturers. A new SR R1, perhaps to continue the Hornby-Dublo theme?
Forum-1211528
You do a complete new loco as the Bachmann one is Maroon and they never did the Red one as Dapol did in N and O gauge so lets have a new RED one ok Hornby as the old one is not what im saying should be remade as i have the Triang one! On the Norfolk Norfolk Railway they had L10 the loco Hornby made and its Red like the Model so it is correct ok
96RAF
NNR also has a Class 20 in the same livery. It suits it well.

Yes it looks great but a new Red Hornby London Transport Pannier would be great as Bachmann has not done a Red one and Dapol did it in N and O Gauge! DBfan
The Hornby body is completely wrong for a London Transport version as all of those were 57xx class and the Hornby model is a 8750, Besides who wants an incorrect model anyway??
Ruffnut Thorston
The reason why LT chose the earlier can 5700 version panniers is the height of the cab roof. The later 8750 type cab is a bit bigger..The LT Loading Gauge is a bit smaller in dimensions to the BR Loading Gauge.Even then, the sides of the cab roofs were modified to fit by LT. I believe this was mainly the rain strips, and gutters..
Mike_P
Yes it looks great but a new Red Hornby London Transport Pannier would be great as Bachmann has not done a Red one Eh? Have a look at the London Transport Museum Shop
LCDR
I am probably old enough to remember seeing the real thing and one thing is certain, London Transport NEVER painted their steam locomotives simply red! The old Hornby one was horrible, the self coloured plastic looked cheap and nasty, and nowhere near the real London Transport livery at all. The colour of London Transport locomotives was Lake, similar to the Midland Railway colour, possibly a shade darker, sometimes erroneously called Maroon. This livery was inherited from the Metropolitan Railway.Metropolitan No1 and No 23 are preserved and are resplendent in this livery. It suited the ex GW Panniers very well too. Just lately a GW 4575 class no.5571 has been repainted in LT livery and numbered L150. Very nice it looks too.Metropolitan No 1 at Rickmansworth 1999L150 at Sheffield Park 2014If Hornby is to do a new London Transport model let it be a C/O/P underground train instead. Arthur-358313
Bachmann has a brilliant model but it is hard to get hold of because it went out of production but, in N scale (collectors club) they have a class 20 in LT which we don’t yet have in 00…
The son of Triangman
I liked the old Tri-ang-Hornby 5700 class moulding which came out in 1972 and ended up as Duck in the Thomas range. However the 1978 issue with the incorrect bright Red LT livery on it grated a bit, but it is now a highly collectable model. The moulding was first issued in 1972 with synchrosmoke and X.04 powered jinty chassis with plated chrome wheels in GWR plain livery and was a great seller. A new Hornby 5700 is overdue for super detail (super fragile) fans or a relaunch of the old model in correct LT livery as a heritage model.
