Must not forget the nose panels.

Of course, I’ve forgotten the undercarriage doors and will have to return to this process for them.

I marked out the disruptive camouflage pattern in pencil and masked the straight demarcation lines between upper and lower areas.

Vallejo Model Air 71048 Dark Sea Grey was sprayed freehand following the guide and filling in the spaces.

I used Vallejo Model Air 71016 US Dark Green to fill in the disruptive scheme.

Cheers Paul, I shall be returning to the Merlin.

I brush painted the fuselage band 19mm wide. There is no need to go over the under sides as the invasion stripes will cover this area.

I then brushed the yellow leading edges of the wings.

Having left the decals to set overnight, I sliced around the edges of the machine gun compartment panels and lifted them out.

I brushed invasion stripes using Humbrol White Enamel Wash applied with a signwriter’s brush freehand, 10mm wide under the wings and 8mm under the fuselage. 8mm and 10mm stripes of Revell Aqua Anthracite filled in the gaps.

The under chin panel sub-assembly fits in very snugly. Nothing glued here and it holds fast.

I can decide later whether to fit it permanently.

At first I struggled with the outer frames, then they slotted perfectly.

Again, not yet glued, a few paint touch-ups first.

I have just started building this kit, my first in around 50 years so it's a bit of a learning curve. The kit is absolutely fantastic but I may have stumbled on an error in the instructions. The flare stowage tray is on the sprue but the instructions omit to show it being fitted to the front of the pilot seat. The holes for the flares can be easily drilled out which adds to the realism.

Overall, an excellent kit which will no doubt lead to me revisiting a few of the ones I tackled in the 1970's.

kind regards

Brian Fraser

I don't know the answer, so I'd ask the question, is this relevant to the specific aircraft offered in this kit? I read somewhere that later marks didn't have the flare tray, so it could be down to specific aircraft at a given time. The inclusion of it on the runner may indicate further variant(s) to be issued.

Back to the build.

The outer frames were fitted. The fillets at the wing root are loose fitted.

and they were then airbrushed with Ammo Mig One Shot Primer A.Mig 2023 Black. This was followed by an over all shot of Vallejo Model Air 71072 Gunmetal (Metallic).
