28mm speakers

Too Tall

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I realise that the 28mm speakers are long in the tooth, so my question is are they decent or are there better alternatives to fit ?

I did find a bass enhanced 27mm but it was only 4 ohm, and I understand Hornby decoders need an 8 ohm.

Cheers gents, I have not heard a 28mm old school speaker myself, hence I didnt know if they might be as good as newer but smaller ones. Usually bigger = better with speakers in this size !

I have a Hornby Merchant Navy Class 35014 Nederland Line that has been fitted with the Hornby TXS sound decoder, but I replaced the speaker with a Zimo 28mm round speaker - the bass sound was a little deeper - and the speaker went into the tender under the weight, as designed for a TTS speaker.

The downside to fitting the speaker in the tender is that it is fairly obvious that the sound is coming from the rear of the loco (tender) rather than the front.
