Ratch
Thanks for your kind words. I have the full set to paint up, but in the meantime I'm repainting my old sets; these Frenchies as grenadiers. Here are just one of each pose. The set will be allocated to various regiments in due course.http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24810884/413954230.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24810884/413954229.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24810884/413954231.jpg
Ratch
I have started on another set of the British Infantry. I wash them in warm, soapy water, put them on a kitchen towel and allow them to air-dry. I have started painting the officer's horse. I wanted him on a chestnut/bay and chose Vallejo Model Color 139 70846 Mahogany Brown & 140 70984 Flat Brown for the horse’s under coat, then Vallejo Model Color 70872 149 Chocolate Brown for the upper coat, though all were roughly mixed and blended on the figure to have a smooth transition. The hooves are Vallejo Model Color 166 70994 Dark Grey.

Ratch
The next set of figures are these rather flashy Highlanders.I have used a scalpel to de-flash as well as I can and started painting the Highlanders. The plastic is repelling the white paint, but not to panic, I shall go over it again.Humbrol Acrylic 61 Matt Flesh + 234 Dark Flesh for the skin tonesHumbrol Acrylic 160 German Camouflage Red Brown, hairVallejo Model Color 70.951/001 White first application, just the hose and headband, and the field of the flag. Ratch
I should say that this set of Highlander figures are too woolly and ill-defined. The sets I have done before this were much better - maybe time to make some newly tooled ones. The painting guide for these is confused with yellow facings, denoting the 92nd Regiment of Foot (Gordon Highlanders) whereas the tartan depicted on the kilt is incorrect for these being more like that of the 73rd Regiment of Foot, who wore blue facings. The red stripe denoted grenadier status.
Philip Creasey
With the so called 'classic kits' being re-released - any thoughts on re-release of 1/72nd RAF Personnel? Airfix sell huge numbers of aeroplane kits - need bringing to life in a diorama with figures IMHO. Your Albion Refueller is excellent but needs a 1/48 driver / figures IMHO. Your Albion Refueller is excellent but needs a 1/48 driver / figures IMHO.Hi Philip, personally I'd prefer a new RAF Personnel Set. I have at least one complete set to paint up and a figures from a couple more sets that I can use for dioramas.Glad you like the Albion, I didn't want a driver in it - I could have converted one of the other figures but didn't feel the need for a man at the wheel. I have started on the tartan kilts with the blue base coat.
Ratch
Today has seen Humbrol 30 Dark Green added in a check pattern. Dabs of Vallejo Model Color 76 70974 Green Sky were put where the green crosses itself. Next, black.
Ratch
Vallejo Model Color 70950 169 Black Humbrol Acrylic 24 Matt Trainer Yellow When painting these I try not to get too obsessive. If the line is a little thinner or thicker in places, or if it even skips a bit, so be it. Its the impression of tartan I'm after.
Ratch
Humbrol Acrylic 60 Matt Scarlet for the jacket, dicing to bonnet band and socks and plume base
Ratch
Vallejo Model Color 70950 169 Black for the bonnet, shako, boots, cockade, cartridge pouch, gaiters and shoes. I would normally have the grey 'marching order' gaiters but followed the instructions in this instance.
Ratch
The saltire was painted Vallejo Model Color 48 70898 Dark Sea Blue Humbrol Acrylic 29 Matt Dark Earth for the India Pattern musket, pack, flag pole and bag pipes. I would have painted the packs black, but these look nothing like as square and solid as the Trotter knapsacks depicted on other figures, so followed the instructions. Ratch
Moving on to the 01743 Hussars, I have 5 extra men and 8 extra horses (without bases) that will be painted as French Hussards with 3 of the new set. The 9 remaining new pieces will be painted as per the instructions.I started with the horses, roughly blending the colours as I applied the paints. Ratch
This may become complicated with the variety of uniforms I intend to portray. I think the busbies/colpacks were replaced with shakos by 1815, so these are more fitting for prior to 1813.
