walkingthedog
It is so nice to see a decent video. I'm afraid we have occasionally had some dire ones in the past.

Bigskybirds
Thank you for the feedback, I don't like to talk on videos I prefer to let the trains say it all. The Wainwright H Class is probably the finest Hornby model I have purchased and I have purchased a few in my many years in the hobby.
96RAF
I think I like that overall ballasting sheet better than the traditional kitty litter stuff. I once used gaming table green biaze as a layout underlay but it was a tad 'bright'.Rob
walkingthedog
I do the same Caiptean, pretty much the standard way. If you search through this forum for posts asking how to ballast, and there are a lot, the advice given is pretty much word for word what you stated. I use a very weak PVA to water mix, something like 1 to 10, then the ballast doesn't turn into concrete. 😮
Bigskybirds
I use the Gaugemaster Gravel and Grass mats for convenience. Three weeks ago I removed the track and cleared the board to take the railway down for work to be undertaken in the room. The use of the scenic mats meant when rebuilding my track was easily relaid and the layout back up and running in a couple of days. I do not consider myself a modeller, I do not have those skills. My layout is a big train set to run my train collection. The colour of these mats does change as can be seen from the sidings and the running tracks. After a few weeks it will look more natural rather than new. I did once try the PVA and water mix method and ended up in a right mess, never again for me. 😆
Bigskybirds
I would put myself in the same category as your cousin. My layout is permanent but had to be taken down for work to be completed on the room it is housed in. I change my mind quiet often and try to get a quart out of a pint pot regarding running space. It would be nice to see other layouts, I enjoyed viewing WTD's setup when he last posted some images. Seeing other layouts gives us all ideas. Bulleidboy
An interloper on my Southern layout. Not sure that Flickr works on here?

Bigskybirds
Thanks for posting these images Caiptean and BulleidBoy, your layouts look really good and well detailed.@WTDIs that Western a Heljan Empress model? At one point whilst viewing your images I thought they looked so likelike then realised they were at Old Oak Common! 😆
walkingthedog
I'm afraid I can't answer that as I have no idea what a bacon slicer is and why what ever it is is called that.
walkingthedog
The Western is Dapol.
walkingthedog
Something to do with the reversing gear I imagine. I thought that was the name given to the wheel not a loco.

walkingthedog
Thank you. I have no problem with the colour. I'd rather see a loco in sky blue pink than no loco at all.
Bigskybirds
I have a Heljan and Dapol 52 but dislike the fact Dapol do not put the names and numbers on which I find difficult so do not bother.
walkingthedog
I like the fact they leave them off, makes it easier to add the name of your choice. Just stick them on with uhu or similar. Not super glue. I did have a Heljan version but sold it. I did buy it second hand and it hadn't been looked after very well. I do like Heljan locos. Bigskybirds
I know I would mess it up, so will not risk ruining the locomotive.
walkingthedog
You need to put a piece of tape just below where the name and number is going. Gives something for them to rest against. If you use a non solvent glue it won't cause any damage. Even PVA works or incredibly thin double sided tape from Hobbycraft. 😀
Bulleidboy
An interloper on my Southern layout. Not sure that Flickr works on here? Very much an interloper! 😆 The Flikr link works and scrolling eventually leads you to 35028! PS Working station platforms lamps I see? 😀The platform lights are the Ratio SR Concrete Platform Lamps that have had very small LED's inserted in the shades - nobody makes a powered version - so I did it myself. There still in existance on Corfe Castle Station and maybe elsewhere. My Flickr account is all model railway - so no problem with public viewing.
