  1. OK, another silly question. Apparently the 166mm straight track if you put a gap between sections gives you the nice clickety-clack sound and is £2.99. The double straight doesn't give you the noise and is 1 penny more expensive and harder to store when not used. Why would I buy the double straight?
  2. I had some Games Workshop scorched grass for wargaming and it doesn't appear to work very well in an applicator (Gaugemaster/Noch), it lies flatter than a *-*-. I liked the colour so I bought some WWS scorched grass hoping this would stand proud, but the colour bares resemblance to what I liked, this is a mine field.
  3. Since a lot of us seem to have our own coupling preferences for what ever reasons, not just in TT but other scales too. Would it not be better for manufacturers to not include them, but simply have a NEM socket and provide couplings separately. That way you can fit your own Tillig, magnetic, kaydee....even 3 link if you want.
  4. I know Hornby won't release any new stuff while the double points offer is on, but am I the only one with a shed load of points and nothing I want.
  5. The Peco couplings are a little bit (let me pick my four letter word carefully) poor. I really hope they take a leaf out of Hornby's book for future releases.
  6. Sorry if this has been asked before but the search engine is poor. I recently sent a HM7000 chip back to Hornby for assessment, it turned out to be faulty and they sent me a new one. The problem I have now is that I can't delete the old chip from my device list. I've got rid of it from the engine shed, but I get an error message when trying to unlink and delete from the devices pages. Ideas please.
  7. Put a spare wired speaker in Falcon and now she's as loud as the othersthumbsup
  8. I got my Peco wagons today, 1 of each, they're nice enough but like Trevor I too was a little disappointed. If you compare them to Hornby. The wagon detail could be better, no detail on the tipper end. The paint needs to be better applied, also there is no variation in grey between the LMS, NE and GWR, GWR ones are usually darker I think. The couplings are useless. Really should have spoked wheels. Peco might arguably do the better track, but Hornby's wagons are better by a flying mile. I have fitted Hunt magnetics to my wagons so now they couple nicely, I did trim the insert end first and you really have to be very careful. On a couple I actually removed the entire coupling assembly to insert the new magnetic to avoid breaking something. I'm really pleased Peco have entered the market and I will buy more of there stuff, if it fits my layout, but you do need to fettle them a little. A solid B+ for effort and the price is OK. Would I recommend them, YES, but be prepared to fiddle with the couplings no matter what style you use.
  9. Thanks Rallymatt, running on HM7000 app with a 4amp brick. What should I set CV8 to?
  10. Now that I've had a little time to play, the sound on the Falcon is definitely quieter than the other 3 A4s. They all have V2 SD038 profiles with the global volume set to 20%. Could it be the speaker? I have a spare. Should I take it apart again and try it or is there something I'm missing in the CVs. 4 identical locos, but one is as quiet as a mouse. Why? Thanks for all your comments.
  11. Always use flux even with prefluxed solder, it makes life so much easier. The type is up to you, I'm still using stuff I probably got from B&Q 40 years ago.
  12. The correct answer is Hornby has an improved controller in their twin channel HM2000, but other makes are available including GM multi-channel controllers which also have a lifetime guarantee including if bought second hand. I have a HM2000 too, as well as 2 Gaugemaster DS units. Search Forums, Youtube, Facebook etc, You pay your money, you take your choice. I think we all know where the path ends. Isn't the HM2000 a feedback controller which can affect coreless motors? Also, does the HM2000 come with a lifetime guarantee?
  13. Just checking on my order at Hattons and I see the 'Huntley and Palmer' wagon is already out of stock. What surprises me is that there are four 5 plank wagons listed but no info or pictures. Does anyone know anything about these?
  14. One is the sensible answer, but the correct answer is NONE. Bin it and buy a Gaugemaster controller you won't regret it in the long run. You get what you pay for and the Hornby set controller is rubbish. You can even get Gaugemaster controllers second hand and they will honour the life time guarantee as long as any security screws etc are intact. Mod note - your post has been reported by a forum member as in transgression of Forum Rule 2 which precludes aggressive promotion of products that Hornby has a current equivalent for. The correct answer is Hornby has an improved controller in their twin channel HM2000, but other makes are available including GM multi-channel controllers which also have a lifetime guarantee including if bought second hand.
  15. Yes, the Hunt couplings just clip into the nem pocket, I do tend to trim the insert end just to get them to fit snuggly. Note there is an up and down to them, so once you've fitted one just make sure future ones have the same orientation. Painting them matt black hides the shiny magnet too.
  16. Personally I hope the Peco wagons sell out in a week so the company is encouraged to back the scale more. I too want salt, cattle, 5 plank, private owner wagons. To answer my own questions, when the wagon is running around, am I actually going to be able to see if it has spoked wheels or discs? No. Since the big four didn't have a standardised colour palette who is to say whether the GW wagon is to pale, besides paint fades in the sun. As far as couplings go, I replace all of my stock with Hunt magnetics so that isn't really an issue either. In conclusion. as long as they run well and look good do I actually care about the minor issues. NO. Just give me more wagons and signals and a turntable.......
  17. Wrong wheels, wrong colour and unreliable couplings, just how good are these Peco wagons? I look forward to seeing reviews.
  18. For the 'Nay Sayers', I guess the Hornby higher price is justified since they seem to be a better wagon.
  19. The offer of double points does say that it is on selected items only, not the entire range. I'd check to see if the track pieces you want actually qualify.
  20. Had an email from Hattons saying they are in my trunk along with the Arnold engine shed. Si I've sorted out the delivery.thumbsup
  21. I got a replacement decoder from Hornby today, I guess the original one was faulty. Is it me or are the sound profiles for the V2 TT locos a little quiet. I've set all mine to 20% volume, but I'm sure they used to be louder.
  22. A replacement HM7000 sound chip for Falcon. They even put the A4 sound on it for me.
  23. Just ordered one of each plus the Arnold engine shed from Hattons, since they have the shed for 40 quid.
  24. Looks like most retailers are offering the standard 10% discount. I'm surprised RoS aren't showing any Hornby TT stuff for sale since they now offer OO gauge.
