  1. Merchant Navy valvegear has always been a very fragile set up, that's why new spares are usually sold out and second hand ones are rare and expensive.
  2. Thanks Chris, thats a bit sneaky! What would this be used for?.
  3. Would a C990 power supply 16v 800mA be OK to use?.
  4. I was hoping this gadget would be plug and play, this has put me off.
  5. All the above are well known problems, along with Clan Line bogie blocks and T9 motor mounts. I am sure there are others. Hornby have no spares for any of these.
  6. This is a design fault with this loco, I have fixed my two by inserting plasticard shims under the back of the motor, lifting it up and thereby lowering the worm to make contact with the drive gears. Just hope you don't have one of the ones that gets mazac rot of the motor cradle.
  7. Look after it they go for silly money these days, around £300!.
  8. I've got a few, they are comparable to the Hornby coaches of the time, very nice. /media/tinymce_upload/269a9427830aa576e7c5f721b1da2507.JPG
  9. There's a heavy rock song about steam trains, "Princess of the night" by Saxon.
  10. The 14xx doesn't use the the hex head screws, it uses round headed push in rivets/pins. As was the Bachmann, it's pins must have been pushed in with a press they were so tight.
  11. i've got hold of some Markin traction tyres, are there any tips or tricks to removing the con rod to fit them? I tried similar on an old Bachmann loco the other day and only managed to snap the head off the pin.
  12. Sad that Hornby seem not to bother holding spares, even for current production models. At the prices they expect us pay these days we should be having a far better service to keep our expensive loco's running.
  13. Going to be a bit of a tailchaser with the paltry amount of track supplied.
  14. The fact that Hornby can't provide spares for current and recent production loco's is a disgrace.
  15. I need Merchant Navy valvegear, front bogie (mazak rot), Railroad 9F tender chassis (mazak rot),T9 motor mount (mazak rot), not to mention the 3 new Terriers I returned to dealer because of their noisy motors. I replaced the motor on my P2 myself using the useful online info which transformed it and will be doing my DoG at some point even though it's not too bad. Just waiting for my S15's motor to fail. 😎
  16. Picked up a new removed from train pack King Charles II for £70.
  17. Crosti 9F arrived today courtesy of Rails at a very reasonable price. The weathering is a bit on the basic side but I may send it for a pro heavy weathering job,if any model needs one this does, I've seen some real crackers. First thought on unpacking is that the loco has some weight to it, and even though it's one of the "design clever" era models I am more than happy with it's appearance, certainly different to the standard 9F. It runs typically well as all the 9F's I've got do, although the gearing seens lower, it has exellent low speed control. A big thumbs up for this one!.
  18. I have found that sometimes the loco axles have been over oiled or have accumulated grease over the years, so give the axles a good clean and light oiling and see if that helps.
  19. A new Railroad A4 Golden Shuttle for £50 at the Great Central Railway Show today.
  20. The barrell snapped off mine, Airfix sent another which arrives with the barrel snapped off in the post, they sent another which arrived in the same condition, dad gave up after that and bodged it with glue (remember we didn't have superglue in those days) which would last for a few days. The onlt plus was I had 2 spare mags and loads of bullets. Last one I saw at toy fair was minty and was £200. I'd still rather have a Johnny Seven!.
  21. Mint in mint box weathered Q1 for £60 at Toy fair. Lovely detailed model and runs so nicely, esp at creeping speed.
  22. Picked up a MiB Hornby Blackmoor Vale and weathered Black 5. Both most exellent.
  23. Got a nice s/hand boxed Britannia at Ally Pally today for £50, had a couple of easily fixed issues with the valve gear and now running beautifully. And a Blue Box City of London out of the firms bargain bin for £62.
