  1. @Dynax that was a great tour round, thank you for sharing it with us. The loco sounded like my SLW class 24 on start up, Can I ask what loco it was? Thanks Rod
  2. Great layout HFM, thank you for sharing it with us. No 'cat-scan' of the layout today, eh? seriously, very impressed. Rod
  3. Thank you to B.B., HFM and GeoFF for the latest videos, most enjoyable. If I am not careful my time will be spent drooling over the locos and layouts, and ignoring the other demands on my time ha ha. Great stuff! Rod
  4. On Friday, my friendly parcels postman delivered 2 Dapol ‘Flying Bananas’ one GW and the other BR (WR). Mine’s The BR version, the other I purchased for a relative. highly delighted with mine, which I DCC’d straight away, very smooth if a bit noisy , will give it a proper run-in and hopefully the noise will reduce!
  5. Returned my ‘Tornado’ to the bench to re-locate the speaker into the loco body from the tender. Got a sugar cube and some black tack, pushed it gently into the smoke box until it stuck to the door. Joined the wires up, test run and a lovely job, much better sound compar3d to the speaker supplied. Thanks to all who suggested sugar cubes as an improved speaker, mightily pleased. Rod
  6. Another go at fitting sound in my Railroad ‘Tornado’ (without frying the new decoder!). Resorted to cutting the speaker cables midway, and then inserting the requisite length of new wire to allow me to fit the speaker in the tender. No soldering, said I, after the last debacle, so I taped the joints together and ran the loco - blimey, it worked, phew. So, refitted the bodies on the loco and tender, retested it, still working! Will ensure I buy sound-fitted locos now. Rod
  7. Forgot to say that I found my club £15 voucher and used that towards the decoder, so that eased the pain a little! Rof
  8. A replacement ‘Tornado‘ sound decoder, and plug removal tool for my sound fitted ‘Duchess’. Hope I don’t fry this one! Rod
  9. Hi Twintop, hope the fall didn’t damage you too severely, glad the coaches survived too! Rod
  10. Decided to fit the TTS decoder to my Railroad ‘Tornado’ so stripped bodies off the loco and tender. Found that there was a location for the speaker under the weights in the tender, lovely. Test-run the fitting, speaker was a reasonable fit, but the leads to the decoder were far too short! Only reached as far as the connecting bar ‘tween tender and loco. Looking at the loco, I have decided to find a small round speaker to fit in the space in the smoke box. So, reassembled the two, and packed the decoder away until I source the speaker. Frustrating, eh?
  11. Certainly is, and my wife enjoys the shops, so, win-win in every way
  12. Enjoyed a weekend in Swindon with my wife, helping a friend celebrate his 70th, and suggested to my lady it would be a travesty for her not to go to the McArthur Glen shopping outlet, spent a good hour visiting the Steam Museum, and will definitely return in the near future. Had another half hour or so in the Hornby shop, bought the sound kit for my ‘Tornado’, and a decoder for the Peckett, which I awaiting delivery of. Lovely day.
  13. They are beautiful looking models, aren't they? I have got the 'Silver Fox" version, bought when they were initially released. Rod
  14. Good evening, Slornie, thank you for the info., I have now checked the website of the company I purchased it from, and they definitely claim it to be dcc ready. The Hornby site, however, doesn't show it equipped with a dcc socket, which is a bit puzzling. I have sent a text to my supplier asking them to clarify. The packaging makes no mention of being dcc ready, nor does the information leaflet inside, so we will have to wait and see. I wonder if the dcc version was one of those which got dropped from the production list. If so, it is surprising the retailer didn't pick it up. anyway, thanks once again Rod
  15. Hi Jimbo, sorry, HD is Hornby Dublo , but could very well be have-a-good-day, never thought of that, surely not a Hornby dud, though, eh? Rod
  16. The J94, 'Lord Phil', lovely looking loco, still needs running in, but will do that after my hols. Silly boy that I am, didn't read the technical description, just assumed it would be dcc ready. Never mind, will find a use for it along with my HD locos and others that are not easily converted. Also placed order with Hornby for the works livery Peckett, looks another cracker of a loco Rod
  17. looks very smart,LC, bears a great similarity to many of the properties built in the 1930s in Metroland. Our local Wetherspoons displays a range of pictures of these 'villas' and also copies of advertisements similar to those in the book behind the model. Living in so-called 'Metroland', I have a great affection for the styles of properties of the '20s and '30s. I wish I had your skills, look forward to seeing the completed model. Rod
  18. Arrived today, R3285TTS LNER class A4, 'Gadwall', purchased new from Rails of Sheffield. Very smooth runner so far, sound is good (to my dodgy ears). Will possibly add enhanced lettering and numbers if I can get up the courage to try it! I know other members of the forum have done it successfully, so will consider it. Rod
  19. Happy Birthday, Wobblin', hope you have had a great day. Just sitting here watching Michael Portillo on the ATSF giant recently restored, when he visited Albuquerque, what a beauty, I was expecting you to make an appearance!
  20. Two Bachmann Pullmans, with lights, lovely looking models, great close-coupling option. The livery is generally very good, but the 'Pullman' logo over the windows is quite indistinct. Also, the lights are seemingly low-level power. However the price was such that I am not going to return to the supplier. Rod
  21. 3 packs of Hornby 14.1mm coach wheels from Amazon at £6.99 per pack, half price or thereabouts!
  22. 3 BR (ER) blood & custard coaches from 'Mighty Mallard' set (Margate manufacture). Nice looking coaches, will replace the wheels with Hornby's current metals. the brake has been 'adapted' to have a light fitted, with the switch on the opposite side of the gangway connector. Before I destroy the vehicle trying to remove said light, can anyone advise how I remove the roof? Any help would be gratefully received. Thank you Rod
  23. You are to be commended for the quality of the models, JB, looking forward to seeing the completed set. BTW, I believe I recollect you saying your family are Welsh, so Happy St. David's day to you! Rod
  24. 73 in July, obviously a good vintage!
