  1. Wishing all the members of this great forum a great 2024, happy modelling Rod
  2. An inspiring story, Mikey, thank you for sharing this with us. Good luck with it's continued success, bringing pleasure to so may people.
  3. Hornby TT power track for dcc, plus a connector cable for same. Also the TXS sound decoder - 21 pin. All from Bure Models (one of the nominated stockists for tt-120), who were offering keen prices on this
  4. Yes, as RAF advises, OO live steam club has an excellent servicing scheme. I very recently sent my 'Mallard' for a spruce-up, and I was kept informed at every stage of the service. A great group of enthusiasts and engineers.
  5. Thanks for the tip, ntp, haven't been on the forum for a while, so not up to speed on this. Rod Mod edit : Duplicates dealt with. We’re always here to help. R-
  6. Looks great, both sets appeared to run well, which is what we all are looking for.....and, yes. agree with Roger, the announcer did the job with great clarity Rod
  7. Thanks for info on oiler, Ken. Looks very similar to the Gaugemaster item, which I have just received. I haven't unpacked it from blister pack, so hope the needle is a similar small bore to that you are showing. Hopefully, spare room will be cleared in a couple of weeks and I can really get to grips with this. All you postings are so valuable as advice for a newbie to the steamer world! Cheers Rod
  8. Good evening, thanks, Ken, for kind offer, which I would be grateful to accept. I will contact Rob with relevant email address etc. Thanks once again Rod Mod note - contact details passed from Rod to Ken.
  9. Ken, you are a veritable mine of information regarding these little marvels, thanks for the latest detail. I haven't yet had the chance to test the loco, or even remove the body to carry out the schedule of maintenance you wrote up some weeks ago. (I have in fact printed it out to guide me along!) I haven't tried for the screw either, so may have to beg your assistance in this regard. Anyway, thanks once again Rod
  10. Thanks for the info on the link, Ken, and apologies for not responding sooner. I will see if the Hornby spares dept. has one. If no luck there, then I will report back. Thanks also for the advice re. WD40, nice to know it's not all bad news with that product!. Look forward to seeing the images of the oiling unit you describe. I never thought I would see a recommendation for Castrol GTX in relation to a OO gauge loco, but sounds as though it is just the right viscosity for this particular range of locos. A trip to Halfords seems to be in order. Rod
  11. Good morning all, thanks again to Ken & Rob for the much appreciated advice. A couple of questions ....how is the connector between loco and tender linked? I have the draw-bar flapping around loosely at present. I assume that it would have had a pin or similar joining the 2 components, but there is nothing in the packaging that might have dropped off. Also, you mentioned a new variant of WD-40, I haven't much experience with these, and note there are a couple of different types available. Is one more suited to our purposes? Any help appreciated Rod
  12. Thank you Ken, and to Rob also. I have copied and pasted Ken's recommendations. As Rob suggests, this could be the basis for a 'How To Service a Live Steam Loco' sticky, Ken is full of knowledge on the live steam range. Always enjoyed his videos showing the conversions he has done. Will let you know how things progress Once again, thanks Rod
  13. Sorry chaps, should have looked further down the forum page - whoops. . So, IPA and/or Methylated spirit are both effective. Very useful Rod
  14. Hi to all, have been away from the forum for a while (protracted house move etc) but glad to see some familiar names. Have just bought 'Mallard' live steam set, and and realise that this is much more than track laying and dcc control, more like the real thing. I was amazed at the weight of the package, the poor delivery lady put it down and ran!! Anyway, as a newbie on this, wanted to ask Ken and Rob about the cleaning of the underside of the loco, When I took the loco out of the package, noticed there were oil marks on the packaging. The underside is shiny with oil, so can I use IPA to clean this off - that's before I even start laying track and connecting the very impressive control system! Any advice would be gratefully received Many thanks Rod
  15. Hi, Wobbly, lovely to 'see' your dulcet tones again. Trust you have been keeping well
  16. Just received the TTS decoder for the class 66 and fitted it to 'Capt. Tom', sounds great to me. So.... a special edition class 66, with sound, for around £140.00. Looks and sounds good and great value for a sound-fitted loco. Well done Hornby, a great product. Rod
  17. Received mine on Tuesday, very pleased with the look of it although not yet removed it from it's clamshell. Did find a piece on the carpet after I removed trhe loco from the box, so will now have to check from whence it came! Also will look at the body moulding more closely just to make sure everything is OK. Love the way Hornby have used this great model as a donation initiative, great stuff Rod
  18. Bachmann have produced the London Underground 'S' class stock as a special for that organisation's shop in Covent Garden. I have the 4 coach set, and have pre-ordered the EFE set (which I had, unmotorised and stupidly sold the set some years ago). Found the 'spud' motorised bogie I bought for it just recently!. I think it would be great if Hornby were to offer something similar in the urban transport set-up Rod
  19. What a great operation, and a credit to you, Duke, I am in awe. I look forward to your updates Rod
  20. Rapido Trains Guy Arab IV ,New Look' bus, with lights, lovely model. Bought the model as a visitor to my LT layout (when it gets built!!) Shame they don't produce a London Transport RT or RM, but you never know.... Rod
  21. I have to agree with LC on his choice of Express passenget loco. Although not a Southern fan, I have always seen them as the best looking locomotives and B.R. really did a great job on them. Rod
  22. Well spotted, Al, amazing that when first read, the error isn’t that noticeable, I don’t think I will pursue it any further though, don’t want to get my knuckles, or anything else, rapped lol Rod
  23. @RAF96. A great project, Rob, I remember seeing your other postings as the work has progressed and look forward to seeing your updated pictures of the completed loco. You are a busy man, with a new home, new layout and projects such as this on the go. Well done Rod
  24. Thank you to Rob for the link to the North Norfolk Railway, the class 20 looks a handsome beast in the ‘Met’ livery. Also to WTD for the shot showing a pair hauling the new ‘S’ stock to Neasden. Saw these two a few times when using the Met to go into London, both ‘at rest’ in Neasden and also in mid-haul.. Great stuff, as always from this great forum. Thanks to all concerned. Rod
  25. Crikey, that is a cracker, Jim, will look very impressive. I keep wondering if I should by the ROD loco, it won’t go with my ‘Lord Rodney’, but at my advanced years I wonder whether I should worry about that lol. The Beyer Garrett is imposing, but so many small (even minuscule!) parts, that I have had to put the bits that fell off when first unpacking the loco in the ‘accessories’ bag, there is no way my shaking hands can reinstate them!
