Thank you for the information @81F. Its the fiddly hooking part I was trying to move away from with the magnetic couplings. The ones in the photos do look very realistic though.
Ok, that's a shame. Do you think its worth sending it back for repair or just get a new one?
I do need to think about using my eLink for the points now, trouble is I've run out of USB ports. USB splitters were always frowned upon unless things have changed these days?
One of my 10yr old R8247 V1 accessory decoders failed today after some short circuits, even though I've got a snubber circuit right next to it .
Are the V2's more resilient against shorts than the V1's were?
Soon gone, like some of the key staff behind it!
Shame really, we bought one for our Grand daughter at Christmas and its actually quite good for what it is was.
For me this is the elephant in the room 🐘, it’s too difficult to browse a sub forum of choice, yes you can do it, if you press enough buttons.
Honestly, the sub forums are loosing their identity now to me, may as well have one big one.
Again I am full of admiration for the quality of what is achieved here, I so wish I had the skills and patience to achieve this level of detail, amazing!
There are some guides here to have a look through to give you an idea of what's involved, just pick one that's closest to your particular age model design:

I must be honest, I made the same assumption especially with the earlier post saying Hornby were sending pre-orders out in the next couple of days and then the RoS dispatch note. Oh well, it will be when it will be
Thanks @What About The Bee for the info, I agree, options 2 & 3 are the couplings in my first photo with the NEM plugs and ties up with the Accurascale Chaldrons. So option 1 would be what is needed for the Hornby Lion, pictures below shows the tiny hook on the back of that era rolling stock and the link coupling, but I've not seen a magnetic coupling that would hook onto this.
Yes, you have to restore an entire device just to get the one app your after. So to move from an iPhone to an iPad by backup/restore does work, but my iPad had loads of other stuff on it which I didn't want to loose. Some apps do share data through iCloud (eg photos), so that could be a route for the developers to go maybe. Alternatively, data could be shared to Hornby's own server and copied across that way?
