  1. I like that as well. The use of vehicles and figures obviously add a lot. That can be see from those scenemasters Ratch & SD45elect2000 in addition to others who have joined this post above. thanks to all for sharing your approaches.
  2. Randall, would you know if you have exceeded your attachment quota? If you can’t attach photos by clicking the ‘Add Files’ button, this might be a reason.
  3. good points from Heather & Hangar. I can see the reasoning behind creating a specific look. I also like the idea of various angles. The advantage of Heather’s approach is I think the large base to more easily accommodate a variety of model sizes. I’ve decided to stick with the Coastal bases, so angles will give me an added dimension. I will still need to improve my background subject photography though.
  4. Great discussion, Heather. Thank you. You have put a lot of effort into this. I do like the ‘blurred’/distance effect. My thought was to try to get something similar as a result of photographing landscapes near me - lazy : Yes! I’m still trying.
  5. TdA, you have given me a bit to think about there. My FAA post only had a deck and no background other than the obligatory kitchen.
  6. I like your approach Ratch. It’s worth doing but I’m trying to avoid going out in the cold at the moment 😆
  7. I think the Battle and Lysander were beginners luck. I’m glad I have the other pics on file now though because I can see the problems. I would like to think I can get some other backgrounds for this base, then it’s on to another base and start again.
  8. This last picture shows a Frog Blenheim If. The previous pictures with the biplane featured a KP Sopwith Dolphin.
  9. Then I managed to obtain an A3 print of the original background. This at last was the same width as the base. However, the new problem was one of scale on the background - the posts seemed huge compared to the aircraft. Suffice to say that this is a work in progress. I’ll update once more experiments have been completed. Obviously, it would be great to see any of your efforts.
  10. I tried to photograph two bits of countryside and then lay the two A4 prints side by side. This was a failure as I hadn’t allowed enough distance between each photo location. I tried using a bland background in the form of trees. It kind of worked but I felt that the break between the base grass and the photo grass needed to be reduced bringing the trees closer. I was reasonably pleased with this but still could only have one aircraft in shot.
  11. However, the background was printed on an A4 sheet which was about half the width of the base, so a lot was removed by cropping. Also, it wasn’t possible to photo more than one aircraft unless they were really small.
  12. Having become disenchanted with posing my aircraft in the kitchen, I started to look more closely at the way others photographed their aircraft and decided to put more effort into my backgrounds. I posted my first attempts on my Recent Efforts post, receiving some very favourable comments, for which I thank you all again. I wanted to see if I could improve and this post shows the next stuttering efforts. These use a Coastal Kits rough field base with my landscape photos behind. These experiments show problems that I hadn’t anticipated so I thought I’d share them here. The first attempt featured several aircraft, and here are just two showing the Lysander & the Battle with the same background. The lighting wasn’t too bad, and the background seemed to be in scale.
  13. My plan is to visit Perth for the Scottish event.
  14. Looks good. Well done for 13 years ago. I like the scene.
  15. I think it’s really important that you two have had such a meeting. I also think that a properly reasoned business case for a few (1-2) models would be more likely to lead to a successful outcome, rather than just a list of ‘I wants’. The amount of effort several of us have put into requests for a new Hampden and that you have mentioned this kit bear this out.
  16. Thanks Randall. All these new badges have me confused 🤪
  17. I’d be interested to know when upgrades are planned or happen. There seems to me to be a problem with the notifications. When I open that link it shows latest notifications together with a time. They are in order with the most recent at the top. Yet when I click on the link, the notification is not to be found. Obviously a bug, but how do we report these? Pity there’s no app …..
  18. Has the Attachment issue been solved? Looks like it because I can’t see my limit anymore. Oh no. Found it, still at 92%.
  19. Much appreciated gilbo. Skills are a matter of trial & error, and patience is the realisation that trial & error are facts of life. I never thought my efforts were worth posting, yet having shown a few completed models here, posting becomes addictive because of the helpful & supporting comments everyone produces. Remember, this site is not a competition. I view it to get encouragement and information.
  20. Oops. Both by Matchbox in 1/72. The on with the yellow spinner is a Siskin in the markings of 32 Squadron. The other is a Hawker Fury in the markings of 43 Squadron. Both out of the box with no additions other than rigging.
  21. Thanks for the advice. In fact, that’s the way I did the stripes on my Sea Fury. I had thought of using black decal stripes. Maybe in future.
  22. These were made a while ago before I discovered the EZ Line type products, so these were rigged with stretched sprue, with mixed results.
  23. I would never consider making these but I am keen to see how they look when someone else has made them. Im building a Shackleton at the moment so seeing how you produce the white upper fuselage will be very interesting.
  24. My post above was in reply to Grumps’ comment about the vanishing paperclip. When I submitted it, a whole raft of messages appeared which I hadn’t seen before. Now, I had only just opened the ‘Up & running’ topic so I would have expected to see all the posts/comments. The comment about attachment limits was very revealing. I’m at 92% which is worrying.
  25. Paper clip stays until the post is completed for me. I used the ‘Add Files’ button for the one below just to test, as Heather had done earlier.
