  1. Hi all, been a while since I have posted! I've been trying to find out if the Freightliner Heavy Haul HXA coal trucks are still being used or have they all been scrapped? Manta thanks
  2. Interesting project. Can you estimate how much of the scrap loco will be repaired/used rather than being replace?
  3. I have an old R915 controller which works just fine but the knurled contact nuts have gone missing! I have no idea where I can get (brass?), replacements??
  4. Apologies if someone else has already mentioned this, (as I don't have the time to read all the post replies), but Diesel Trains also do conversion kits. I think these are for old Limas but the info might be of use. https://diesel-trains.co.uk/test-category/test-product.html
  5. WTD, wherever I have worked I have had enough interest in the organisation/industry to read about it IN MY SPARE TIME. Maybe they could employ people who actually have an interest in their own products?
  6. Now, if I worked for a company like Hornby I would be curious enough to visit the company forum just for a nosy and maybe take some notes. So presumably nobody in the company has the slightest interest in how their products are perceived to do this one simple thing?
  7. A close friend expressed the wish to buy me a nice loco for my birthday. My response was 'don't buy a new one cos you cannot get spares'. Hornby will know about the situation but presumably don't give a flying fig.
  8. Well I guess that sheds some light on it. They actually look quite detailed. But the crazy themes they have used to paint them are er.....quirky. I would have one just for a laugh
  9. Just come across the Hawthorne Village 'Elvis' train set for sale on a website. Has anybody ever heard of this before. May be manufactured by Bachman?
  10. Lima HST, lightly weathered including the dummy engine, £10 from car boot sale. Runs very well.
  11. Just filed mine down with a hand file. Took a wee while but the wheels are made out of relatively soft metal so it was no big deal. Having said that, I intend to buy some old track for the older engines in my collection...
  12. A shame really, considering the detail...
  13. The J72 looks as though it would fit the xo4 powered front drive Jinty? I'm sure somebody will have done it but I can't find any info...maybe Sara Again?
  14. Buz, there might be a market for ready made Reville model kits. At least having a static version in a 'museum' siding would look nice. But as intimated, I wouldn't fancy making one....too many parts!
  15. I wonder....buy 'em cheap and use the bodies on old Hornby/Triang chassis? Is this poss do you think? Without too much mucking about that is.
  16. I did buy a J72 some time ago but although the motor ran. the gear only engaged intermittently so I sent it back to, (the apologetic), seller. Also, I think I have a Royal Scot with a crumbling wheel. The rest of it looks nice though.
  17. As I browse ebay I always notice loads of Mainline locos that are usually cheap to buy. Are they any good? If not, are they easily repaired. Some of the detailing looks pretty good to me.
  18. Bought a Liebherr excavator from Morrisons. I'm sure it's the correct scale.
  19. I bought a oo gauge Lima Class 33 from ebay. When it arrived it turned out to be HO! Contacted the seller who had no idea and apologized for the mistake. In fact, he offered to refund my money and said I could keep the loco. I declined the offer but kept the loco as I quite liked the idea of collecting some HO. Since then, I have aquired a few locos. Buy and run what you like. The gauges do not match in size but you don't have to run them at the same time do you?
  20. J83 from, (I think), around 1980. Body in vgc. Chassis awash with oil as per a lot of ebay purchases indicated a possible problem which turned out to be a slight squeal at half wave running. Remedied by lubing the motor shaft. No mean feat as this was a type 7 motor. Thankfully my syringe oiler could reach the inside bearing. Mopped up the excessive oil and cleaned everything in sight including the axel that rests upon the two tiny suspension springs. After that it ran smoothly at all speeds very quietly.
  21. I had one but couldn't work out how to use it in relation to scale.
  22. Lucky you, I have never seen one on ebay, (or anywhere else), and was beginning to think I imagined it.
  23. A few items bought from Evilbay over the lat few weeks:- /media/tinymce_upload/ea5b542e8dc5acfa570d1108f177e02a.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/9a484782a4916976a3b3f17cd8571fbc.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/8a6179b9bac31465aea486ef37148379.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/815c619edde491ac3803dc4009e4ba35.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/4775df6ec3876cdc035b536ac9d5e0eb.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/5f7f20c85e3c979db4b19bc9c14a06c0.jpg
