  1. Would I be right in thinking if you wire two motors in paralell the voltage across them is the same but the current draw would be doubled? If yes what happens to the current if you wire them in series? I know the motors run at half the speed and I seem to recall the voltage is "shared" - but what happens to the current?
  2. Two Grafar LNER coaches for £11 each from an antiques arcade in Hungerford. The bodies are slightly damaged but the rooves, buffers and bogies are OK (usually I find it's the other way round. I've already canabalised them between my LMS, GWR panneled and plain Choc-cream coaches making these models perfect.
  3. Caledonian Single 1980's model (?) in LMS Red in box yet to test it though.
  4. A Dapol County of Worcester and I've just ordered a Hornby metal front pony truck for it. Not that there is anything wrong with the plastic original other than they are a bit light. Once I get the pony truck I'll DCC chip it. I must admit these are about a decade too new for model but they are such good runners I couln't resist
  5. Just got the GWR Clerestory Third Class Coach - R4669 and GWR Clerestory Brake Coach - R4670, just wish I'd waited a week before ordering one and preordering the other at the same time so I could have saved postage! These are teally nicely finished and the paintwork really lifts what is effectively 1980s model. The only thing is the online catelog description says the R4670 "Entered Service: 1940s" which is not right. Cant get to my Jim Russells GWR coaches to get an exact datee but I would say it was certainly pre first world war and the livery is 1922-1927. Still very nice and will make my troop train up to it's full 5 coach length.
  6. Just taken delivery of two Wrenn six wheeled milk tankers in rather poor condition. Although intact, one has been badly repainted while the other has lost its transfers and is a bit grubby. I will probably dismantle them, t the metal bits in the Nitromors and modelstrip the tanks and repaint. Why go to the trouble you may ask. These old wrenn/hornby doublo ones have different brake levers!
  7. There is one in Boswells, Oxford. Although this has Scaledale buildings and is not the original I remember from a teenager.
  8. Have just taken delivery of a six pin chip for a blue box loco. Its a shame the're using them instead of the 8 pin as I found the standard Hornby chip works well in their locos. In addition just bought some more playworn Grafar OO coaches. Since finding out how they come apart I've been stripping them down and reassembling the best bits.
  9. Have the same thoughts myself - Just trying to remember where SWMBO has put her Hornby LBSCR brake van!
  10. /media/tinymce_upload/e6f9c7af389e156267966b082da434c7.jpg Joeuf SNCF 231 C 60 Despite probably being around 45 years old only minor damage to footstep and a very smooth runner even at slow speads.
  11. Bachmann E4, LBSCR umber came the week of my wedding aniversary so SWMBO has adopted it as "our" loco (it was the best compromise I could get!) The other item was a pure "nostalgia" pieces - two Jouef 231c pacifics in SNCF green. I had only intended to buy one and had put a very small bid on it when a second much better one came up. ended up winning them both! I remember being given one of these (less tender) in Brown as my second loco in the late 70s. My original became badly damaged but still has a working motor so I wasn't too bothered that both were poor runners. However just by tapping a loose crankpin back and oiling round one is perfect! The nice thing is that it has the old Hornby/Peco type loco so I now have sometrhing that can pull my tinplate - though not particularly authentically! The second a tender drive looks as thogu it needs sonme work. The only pickups I can find are on the second tender bogie so it stops on all points!
  12. Not sure if this qualifies for an aquisition but I've just produced an interior for the old Triang/Hornby short clerestory brake. Sadly it needed a little trimming to fit but I've now fixed the original "model" but have yet to test print it.
  13. Ive used Nitromors Paint stripper on white metal kits and some toy cars so this should work. The only thing is that it will disolve superglue and epoxy but as I don't think hornby ever used this you should be OK.
  14. This is like the three I have. From these I had one good PCB with wires. The other two wete either missing wires or was cracked. of the three tops two had the hinging levers missing (one with the red knob damaged so that the clip would not have stayed in the third top had the lever but the clip thaty held the top to the PCB had snapped. fortunately I was able to make one whole one from the three which is in perfect condition.
  15. Is that the new Avonmouth van? if yes I have just ordered one too (from Amazon). Please can you tell me if it has NEM pockets and narrow couplings or the wide Airfix (Hornby Railroad) type. Looking at the picture I'm guessing it's the old wider type (which is best for me) but I am aware that production version do differ from the catelogue images. Many thanks Steve
  16. Thanks for the link, I will take a look at the possibility when I service it. Having said that if the loco looks as good when I have it in pieces I will probably leave as is or look try and get a more "used" chassis for a conversion. Thanks again
  17. A GWR WRENN W2220 2-6-4 TANK Locomotive for £64 on ebay. It looks in perfect condition with no dirt on the wheels and only a tiny bid of scuffing on the cardboard tube packing in the box. It seems to groan and move stifly on a 9V batery but probably just needs an oil. I cannot see how I can fit a chip to this one so will probably end up in the display case with the better of my two LMS 0-6-2s I think I might have got a bargain here as most I've seen go for 100+. the price on the box is £12.86 so I'm guessing mid to late 1970s (I remember being around £6 short of being able to buy one at around that time) so a 35 year wait is not too bad! Shame it's totally unauthentic!
  18. Just taken delivery of the new Hornby Railroad Hall Looks good but wish I could get hold of a tender water scoop etc (would be nice if Hornby sold detailing packs). I haven't had chance to do a test run as I am awaiting a chip. Another acquisition is a Hornby AEC railcar (GWR No 29) to go with my Lima no 22. This was second hand off ebay. The only fault was a miossing body screw and it had a number of passengers blue-taked into it. my third is the Bachmann 64XX.
  19. I have the remains of 3 which I hope to build one from. I don't intend to use it but I am currenly trying to re-create my first train set! I picked up an identicle set a few months ago from ebay with bits missing. Just need to complete the contoler and get hold of a goods depot kit.
  20. I recall they looked like this http://images.questelectrical.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/650x650/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/v/a/varta-pj996-6v-lantern-battery.jpg
  21. Just ordered/received a whole load of wagon weights, Some resin wagon loads (ironstone) a Blue box MOT 16T mineral wagon, several 6 wheeled Palethorpes vans (Two GWR, and two maroon) two MOY coke wagons Mainline a GWR match truck and an LNER Lowfit, the latter will release my LMS verson for my Hornby Maintenance crane whilke the former will act as a barrier wagon on my bulk oil train. Finally some more of my own 3D printed wagon bodies.
  22. A Norstand, Texaco and BR brake wagon to go with my Hornby London Transport Pannier, A wreck of a Jouef 231c pacific for £10. with the remains of the two others i have I should be able to get one working. Two Ruston Bucyrus Excavators and crane for the quarry. Even though I've still a lot of scenic work to do they just seem to add life.
  23. 1. Three Triang Trestrols in a "played with condition" Two grey (one with transfers and anther green with NATO on the site all have some damage but I've heard these models were too short so I intend to cut and shut these into one or two proper length models as soon as I can fing a drawing to see how long they need to be. 2. Triang (green) bogie well wagon, again for detailing once I can idenmtify the type it is based on. 3. The Hornby R6004 Maintenance crane (basically the old Trian version!) which I hope to detail.
