  1. Hi Dom, to expand on Ratch's reply there is nothing in the Airfix Forum rules that prevents discussion, or comparison with models from another model company. And users have previously posted images for comparison and in the Pandemic Gallery thread of their work from many brands. The rules merely states that promoting another's product (such as a full build thread for that product) is to be discouraged. And being this is Airfix's Forum, intend for there products I think that is fair enough.
  2. Hi Jess and it's nice to know that the Airfix Team is monitoring and listening to the Forum. That is a first and big step forward as it has in the past seemed that the management of Airfix don't listen to the forum or its customers, so going forward regular involvement and feedback would be good. You have already mentioned 2 of the main improvements I would recommend, getting all historical content and images from the previous forum uploaded, and the addition of a 'like' function to posts! I also use the ATF as a useful tool to display my attempts at modelling but would also like to see the Airfix Forum revived and the return of missing users. Thank you, Nigel
  3. I don't think kit has appeared on the forum before so here is my attempt at refreshing an old and unusual kit! Completed as 1 of the final prototypes V10 which was close to the operational standard. There are unconfirmed reports that 1 or 2 aircraft appeared on the Eastern Front for operation trails. But here is my finished model, the unusual Bv141. I did a few enhancements like a PE cockpit set, boxing in and detailing the wheel well bays and drilling out the exhausts. I hope you like what I have done and all comments are welcome?
  4. All good suggestions above Matt as I now also use brass rod where needed, but it's an extra expense when just starting out, stretched sprue is free! A bit of cross over on posts as above users replied whilst I was typing and moderator software rejected my first post for my use of a word suggesting an 'undressed flame' 😄
  5. Hi Matt and welcome to the forum and back to modelling. Firstly an open flame is too fierce for plastic, especially the new softer Airfix plastic, unless of course you intend to melt it (more later). You would have been better immersing the part in hot/boiling water for a few mins which would make the part more plyable to straighten gently. Unfortunately delicate parts can get broken and repairing on a sprue can often be the best way to get the correct alignment, but a repair is always weaker than the original item. Poly cement is good cos it welds plastic, super glue is also good and strong but very brittle. It would probably have broken again whilst trying to remove it from the sprue location points? Try making a new pitot tube from stretched sprue? Use your flame to heat a length of used sprue runner till it becomes soft, then stretch it out until you have a length of the correct thickness/tapper. Then hold it for a few seconds till it hardens and it can be cut to length. It might take a few goes to get it right, and this method can be used for all manner of thinks like replacement ariels etc! Hope this helps and keep us updated on your progress ...
  6. Yes Ratch the lack of responses is disappointing and shows the steady demise of the Airfix forum especially since the Admin moderator problems during lockdown and down time of the forum with the launch of the new website. But if we all give up on it then it will surely die! Do we want that? I suggest not so I will continue to use it and try to support the forum!!
  7. I have often discussed other non Airfix kits without issue as per the guidelines. And I've just built this brand new kit 👍
  8. Another view with attempt at creating some AAA fire. That's all for now!
  9. The aircraft is shown in flight, deploying it's torpedo on its attack run. I have given the aircraft a worn appearance.
  10. Hit the Post Reply icon again before loading the image.
  11. I shall declare this model finished. I'll start with an image of the box art and model. As the website still seems to be only uploading single images I'll only be doing a few tonight.
  12. I haven't found BM a user friendly site, maybe it's just me with my stoneage ways? But it's nice to know you are still about Heather and making 1940 aircraft! But I think peebeep is right, this forum was down for too long following the launch of the new website, with previous and continued difficulty uploading images, it's possible user's may have gone elsewhere and not returned. To coin a phrase, AIRFIX IT WAS A BIT OF AN OWN GOAL!!!
  13. Looks an excellent build and very good weathering. Well done!!
  14. I still build Airfix kits at the same rate, as soon as I finish 1, I start another! But yes I have noticed that the Forum isn't as well used as previously, maybe it is down to teething problems with the new website. I also use ATF, as it has Airfix Group Builds you can join in with and I can also post my rare builds of non-Airfix kits. And I did stop using this site last year when Admin Moderators became almost none existant. Maybe others did too and haven't returned yet? Or have found other forums like the ATF and BM?
  15. Thanks Ed. And looks like you have attained a good clean finish William. Mine will be ready for display images once I have done 1 or 2 tweeks to my display base if my ideas come to fruition 🤔?
  16. Thanks for the positive comments Paul71 and Rogue. Once I'd read through the blurb lol!
  17. Final image for now, of the lower surfaces and staining. It will be my final display images shortly when I can get it finished!
  18. A further topside view of the airframe.
  19. The camera is very good at showing up minor imperfections, but not so good at showing the cockpit detail. But take my word for it, the cockpit glasing is very clear so the details can be seen so I'm pleased I spent time painting the interior!
  20. That was the underside, now for a topside view. As can be seen the turret is to be added and an ariel wire.
  21. The airframe is almost complete. A clay wash has been added then some additional staining followed by a Matt Cote.
  22. Thanks Chris, and you mean heat tainted stainless steel, and neither is it bright copper. But until the medium I use produce the exact colour, my mix works for me ......
  23. And my last installment for today is the airframe with all decals applied, sealed with a coat of Klear. Weather and assembly on the next update.
  24. Looks like the website is only accepting single images again so here goes 😕. I should of completed the turret and MG blister earlier but working on them now. Bit of a vague fitting for the blister/MG so will add a brass rod to assist. Torpedo and props done, waiting for final assembly.
