  1. As usual you have produced a stunning build PMM!
  2. I haven't given up building Airfix kits as the vast majority of my too large stash is Airfix but I post over on the ATF now. Though I did post earlier in this thread that we shouldn't give up on this forum, I virtually have because in the past 6 months I have only managed to upload 2 images of my work so feel I am wasting my time. So until Airfix fix the issue I will not be able to post my builds!!
  3. This may seem like a daft question but I've sent a Flying Hours Passport to the Hornby 3rd Floor Gateway address and had it returned marked 'addressee gone away' and I can't find where I should send it to. Any ideas?
  4. Looking good PMM. And yes I had thought about using the 4000lb Cookie and bomb trolley from the RAF Re-Supply Set and borrowing some bomb shackles from a Lanc kit?
  5. Just a follow up to Frederick's post I agree that the free replacement parts service without checks was abused in the past. Recently I haven't had any issues getting replacement parts when supplying the requested information for a genuine request, and I have also paid for additional sprues that I have requested (like the sprue of DC bombs when I wanted extras for my Wellington GR build) or decals. I think it's £8 for a sprue and £3 for a decal sheet which I have been happy to pay!
  6. Thanks Heather, I might take the plunge 1 day!
  7. Looks very good PMM. And I see what you mean about the pilot, he looks like the standard CAD lift from across the range but dwarfed by the huge control stick! And least I have an idea now of the profile needed to the rear of the bomb bay!
  8. Looks an excellent build Heather. I'd be interested to know how you managed with the S.B.S. rigging set as I've considered trying 1? And @ Colin, yes so rumour has it. Or was it just directors licence in the film Tora Tora Tora!?
  9. Yes Rouge the stands are identical. And well done Ian your display looks good. If wobbly your pin holes were maybe a drilled a bit too big. Easily done so I often add an additional plastic card plate inside the fuselage to keep things tight!
  10. I shall add my voice. As PB says Airfix can't win with the complainants, no detail or lots of detail someone will find fault. All manufacturers are trying to provide more accurate and detailed kits. If Airfix don't keep up they will fold again and probably not come back! As Heather says I also love the challenge of extra detail, but you can choose what detail you want and fill your spares box for putting into your older kits lacking details. And this may seem harsh but you say you sand, dry fit and do good assembly but kits still don't fit, then you're probably still doing something wrong! Sorry but I dry fit and sand, then do it again if needed and rarely have fit issues ( if I do it's usually of my own making cos I'm rushing or have missed something in the build sequence ). Not all issues can be put down to Airfix or bad design/production/too much detail, sometimes we modellers need to take responsibility for getting it wrong!!
  11. Sorry Kenneth is that in relation to the Phantom or Wessex, seems a little criptic?
  12. Ignore all the moaning PMM, I'm just looking forward to seeing you build the kit. As you say, so called minor errors I'm not bothered about either! Counting rivets, I'm definitely not interested in! It looks very much like a Mosquito to me, a new tooled detailed one at that and I'm happy. It's bomber version that Airfix have never done before, probably with other similar Stage 2 Merlin kits like the PR.XVI to follow so what more could I ask for? Well I won't take over your thread by waffling on, I'll just sit back and enjoy the build!

Cheers Paul, thought that might be the case and looks like nothing will change!!

You are right John it seems a very easy fix though I have yet to start mine. And though I am a forum user I do find there are a few too many 'rivet counters' out there who enjoy the sport of 'Airfix bashing' which I find a disappointing for want of using 'french'. I sometimes wonder if other makers such as Revell get such criticism on their forums when releasing a new kit with a small error or 2. Or is it just an Airfix thing??
  16. Matthew your colours look good from a distance and seem to match the box art! Vallejo Model Paints are very good and generally offer very authentic colours. But for every rule there is the rare exception. And of course it's all down to personal choice. And as I say they work very well for me! And you are not the only 1 to suff difficulty in uploading images. I have almost given up posting my models here due problems, then suddenly I got an image posted last week of my Phantom FG.1, but now getting the same error message when trying to upload further images!

It's also covered in the August issue of AMW who did a build review of the new kit and it's a simple task to remove the raised detail on the doors!
  18. Thanks DD & PMM. And yes I'd noticed the Wessex in both the Phantom and Bucc S.2C boxing so hope Airfix see the light and release it soon before I have to resort to a kit from It 🤔?
  19. Thanks MMM. It took me a couple of weeks just to get this 1 image loaded and now I'm getting the usual 'Snap - something went wrong' error message but I will continue to try as a picture is worth a thousand words. The diorama base is the Italeri Carrier Deck Section and a selection of figures from the Italeri NATO Modern figure set. Rather than waffle on I can answer further questions if you are interested?
  20. This is my latest creation, the RN Phantom FG.1 with the extended nose leg and displayed on a Carrier Deck base ready for catapult launch!

What's all the fuss about over the bulged bomb bay doors. 402 Mosquito B Mk.XVI were produced, only the first 12 produced had the previous flat profile doors and the remaining 390 (or 97% of total production) had the 'bulged' bomb bay doors to accommodate the 4000lb Cookie bomb. Additionally many B Mk.IX's had the bulged doors retro fitted. Therefore Airfix are correct in providing 'bulged bomb bay doors' to produce an accurate B Mk.XVI.

My point exactly Ratch, but you used far fewer words!! And yes Shaughan there is a good interview with the kit designer on UTube on his thought process on how he wanted to make it easier for the modeller to build and paint such as using the wing as a jig for the under-carriage assembly but not fitting it till all assembly/painting is done and providing a painting mask for the nacelles!

Sorry Tweezers but I really can't see what the problem is? I think the hint is in the statement 'with thanks to Airfix for early access to test shots'! Airfix's target market is from beginners or novice modellers up to advanced modellers, so the kits cannot be too complicated or advanced and need to appeal to a broad market. Aftermarket resin or PE is for advanced modellers (or like me an average modeller trying to improve) or a more specialised market. Airfix probably have other variants/boxings planned which is usual, but in providing test shots to Freightdog they must feel it will not impact on their market share. It may even improve it as with any aftermarket resin set, the modeller would still need to purchase the base kit!?
