  1. Hi Dan, the Mk4 coaches in the Intercity livery were made between 1990 to 1996.Other later liveries were made in China and the were made from the same body moulds, but may look more detailed. I would have thought £235 was a bit steep for a class 91 plus a DVT, but about the right price for the class 43 HST pack. HST packs also were also produced in Intercity livery, Br Mk3 coaches usually make up a Prototype train. Regards
  2. Hi Dan, Hornby MK4 coaches are probably what you would need to look for. The auction site ebay will have plenty, other model railway shops/ sellers may have second hand items. Types of stock include BR MK4 Tourist Open, BR MK4 Open 1st, BR MK4 Catering Car, and BR MK4 Driving Van Trailer, DVT. Regards
  3. Hi Derek, if you could advise the maximum size of the baseboard where the layout needs to be placed, members will probably be able to advise a suitable track design. My view would be if the board is too narrow for what has already been proposed, perhaps a siding inside the main oval may be considered. Regards
  4. Hi, would the layout be similar to the layout I found on internet. It is marked up as a MK1 unclassed.

Hi Vlad, as Going Spare has said There was only one member of this class of loco, and carried the number 101.Hornby have produced 7 models of this loco, dating from 1978, some were made in the England and the later versions made in China.Examples can be found in train sets as well as solo models. The loco with running number ‘104’, was only produced in a train pack R2670.It was available from 2007 to 2015, R2670 was manufactured in China. The train pack was marketed as a Railroad version of the loco. Body shell has remained the same same throughout its production life except for the inscription where it was made. Internal motors may have changed, others may update you in that respect.
  6. There are examples of Hornby products that have increased well below the Bank of England inflation statistic. Most seem to be the Railroad range of products, which are a like for like comparison of some Hornby products. Taking the formula that inflation has risen by 72% in past 20 years.Railroad coaches are well below this rise, also B17 Liverpool likewise. Example: Mk1 coaches, year 2000 price around £17.00, £17.00 x 172% = 2020 price would be £29.24. Hornby rrp of Railroad Mk1 £22.00 to £23.00. A very good price.
  7. Hi stubaggieboy, as I said in OP it was an observation and not a moan. The Bank of England website states that since 2000, goods and services have increased by 2.8% on average each year. Hence £10.00 spent then would cost £17.21 in 2020.
  8. Hi Twintop & Doc, there are electronic devices on the market that scare/deter mice. A quick google of 'electronic devices that deter mice' brings up several devices at reasonable costs. Not sure about bats though. Regards.
  9. Hi all,not a query or a moan, just an observastion, we of a certain age always say to the the younger end 'things were always better in the old days'. This I think is true to the railway modelers amongst us.Detail of items have increased, but also the cost. Items always seemed to be more affordable in the past. To prove how a run of the mill modeling item has increased in price, I came across a unused packet of wheel/axle sets, I bought new quite a while ago, R8096. Notice the price RRP £6.50 on sale at a model shop £3.00. Todays RRP £19.84,Cheapest price I could find, On Amazon £16.25 incl P&P. Auction site £18.98 to £32.99. This product in 2002 was £3.10. 600% increase in 20 years.The packet I have dates from 2012. Do any other members have similar priced items bought new from 'the good old days'.
  10. Photos of early Chinese tenders for Edward (2) , James (5) and Gordon (4). All are the same, so chip installation will be similar. Later Chinese tenders although appear to be same externally, workings/wiring may be different. Refer to Hornby support for service sheets and other pdfs.
  11. Hi, further information which may be of help. Like Gordon,R383, Edwards tender was a Hornby schools tender., also James tender is similar. Early Gordon tender is the same connections as early Edward. Likewise for the later Gordon’s and Edward,s they also are the same also. Later Gordon is R9291. May be easier to check service sheets for Gordon for the wiring.Quick check could be service sheet 247b, to show same type of tender wiring.There is also a pdf in Hornby support that shows you how to wire James tender for a chip, which once again seems to be the same tender.   12. Hi Ross & Chris, There are two versions of Edward, both are tender drive. Early one R9232, tender not permently attached. Later version R9289, loco wired to tender and tender permently connected. I have not opened up the tenders but maybe different workings/motors.Tender wheels and visible gear cogs are different. My R9232 example has date of 2010 on loco base.R9289 has 2015 on base. You may need to advise which Edward you have. Regards

  14. Hi All, often overlooked, but the most exspensive 14xx produced by Hornby. Hornby R9070, Thomas and Friends, Oliver. The rarest being a limited edition run of only 250, R3578 for the Wareley 50th.aniversary. Photo of Oliver, R9070.
  15. If Hornby introduced the sand / golden ochre coloured version, I would definitely buy one whether in railroad version or a updated new tooled super detailed version. I think Lima produced two models in those liveries.
  16. I agree that it is a poor replica of the original loco. The preview of the Holden 0-4-0, in the Ramsey Guide states: 'Only one member of the class (No. 10) was made by GWR and was never to leave the Swindon yard.' 'The model has been frequently used by Hornby for non-authentic liveries.' Hornby so far have produced over 55 non-authentic liveries to date.
  17. Hi Anglia, Hornby also produced a 0-6-0 wheel arrangement for the smaller Thomas body. Two were push-along type locos, one was a clockwork loco. Three versions, two had flat wheels, one very rare example had flanged wheels. The flanged wheel version cannot be faked as it has a different chassis. The flangeed wheel versions are possibly preproduction, or factory errors. Rare flanged wheel version at top.
  18. Hi Keith, to give you a start in rolling stock, Hornby produced a R155, 0-4-0, yellow Holden tank with Colman’s livery.Also found in set R554, Pick up Goods set. Regards
  19. Hi commanderman, it may help others identify any faults if you can quote, or show the type of Hornby Duchess of Sutherland. There are two main variants, one dating from 1977, R066, UK tender drive, and several variants from the later tooling of the 2002, China loco drive. Regards
  20. Pictures of early UK, 0-4-0 Thomas, and later Chinese version. Chinese version is at top. English version has clockwork lever through the roof. Clockwork, for use on plastic road type track, in on top. Electric version on bottom. Both made in China.
  21. Top 3 locos in picture, are the three variations of R330.Bottom is R864. Fourth variation of R330, is the rare NRM Evening Star, only 125 made in 1983.
  22. Hi Westy, Probably a factory error, in my opinion. R330, according to Ramsey, did have 3 different factory applied numbers. Produced 1990 to 1991. Hornby at the same time also produced a 8F R325 with 3 different factory produced numbers.Only 600 of each number. Regards
  23. Hi Kevin, To aid you in your research, lately Hornby have produced two train sets which include the LNER Mallard. R1171 Flight of the Mallard set, with LNER Teak coaches.Hornby produce a budget range called railroad, also a more detailed range of coaches, more expensive. R1202 Mallard Pullman set, with Pullman coaches.Hornby also produce two price ranges, once again a railroad range, and the more expensive detailed range. Hornby have produced Pullman coach packs, but are for named trains. There are plenty of loose coaches for sale on the well known auction sites, to suit all budgets. Regards
